Wireless audio transmitter
I just picked up a 2.4ghz wireless audio/video transmitter/receiver package at radioshake yesterday. I intend on having my PC output audio to the bedroom which is the next room. I hooked the thing up and I got absolutely no reception, on any of the channels. I moved both the sender and receiver into the bedroom, about 10 feet from each other and tried again. I again tried all the channels, and only one got even crappy reception.
Do they make good wireless audio transmitters? Does anyone have one they recommend? |

As a A/V Pro, I can recomend this, stay away from wireless audio/video gear. Wireless computer networking is one thing(and a good thing) but Audio/Video wireless stuff generally doesn't work very well. Only the most expensive stuff seems to work, if at all.

Another thing to check is your walls - if they're heavily insulted or pretty much other material than drywall (CONCRETE = BAD!), you'll get shitty reception with wireless hardware unless you pay top dollar.
As said above, you're probably better off trying to return the hardware and go for long cables strung between the rooms.

When i was in college i was a manager at a radioshack and could only get those little recivers to work for about 5 ft with no noise and wouldn't recconment them to customers and the couple of ppl that did buy them brought them back...
I am into the idea of long cables, I have ran them through air ducts in houses and drilled holes in the floor and ran them under the floor. Hardwire if the most reliable meathod but the wireless networking does work ok, due to high speed and tcp connection based communications, so that if a packet is dropped it can regenerate the packet and resend it , but you would have to have a pc at the other end to play the music. So i would sugest long cables |

Thanks Mr Mephisto. That looks perfect.
I was able to find a way around the wireless problem. As I was looking at the wall I realized that I could just run an audio signal through the existing coax able that normally would have a TV signal, but I don't have a TV in the bedroom. I made some really funky looking ¼ to coax adapters and it works great. It's only mono but that's fine since I have the two speakers right next to each other anyway. Now I have music the bedroom...I should start a thread about suggestions. Thanks for all your help. I should have done the coax thing months ago. |
