Listing Programming Language Experience on my Resume
Quick Question:
When asked how many years of programming experience I have with a certain language, am I allowed to include academic experience? For example, I've used C++ heavily since my senior year of high school and through college, totalling about 6 years of use. But I have not used it professionally. So, on a site like Monster, am I allowed to say I have 6 years of C++ experience? Or should I leave that out?

I would go with professional experience only. You might put down in the "extra's" section that you have C++ experience and leave it at that. Let them ask you when you did it and then you can go over it with them.

Exactly You should mention it, but put it under "skills" or "extras" or whatever. Make sure if an employer asks about it, to say that you are very confident in your ability, and maybe even bring in some examples of code you've written.

on my resume I have a list of languages/technologies I've learned in class... a lot of them are not in depth, kind of a brief overview and we may have spent a week or 2 on them. but some of them I know better... I put the ones I know better at the begining, and if they ask about it I can tell them about how much of each language I know.
and If you are particularly proud of some certain projects you've done you can print out the code and make a portfolio to show them some samples of your work.

goddfather40 has the right idea. List it without the time frame as a skill.
Personally if I see a resume with a large experience time frame without it being shown in the job history, it throws up a red flag. Which usually means it gets deleted unless I see something else really interesting.
