Voting Conundrum
I was talking to a republican friend of mine who said she would vote for Bush again since she doesn't like any of the democratic candidates. I don't see any logic in this. The same could be said the other way around. If the current president isn't do such a hot job in office during his term why vote him again?

As a conservative I'm pissed as Bush for spending money like a democrat without even token attempts at cuts. (Sure the senate dems would block anything meaningful but I'd rather have them be the problem) On the other hand there isn't a single democrat running I would vote for. Lieberman was pretty darn close, but moderate democrats who don't just spout anti-bush and class warfare slogans don't have a prayer in today’s democratic party I would rather see someone who was more conservative then Bush in the White House (yes this may shock you but Bush isn't very conservative outside of religious issues), but by not voting for Bush I would get someone far far worse. Right now Bush is taking people like me for granted and hoping to get more of the middle. I could 'take a stand' and give him the finger for it, but in the end I would only be screwing myself.

What Ustwo said can pretty much discribe my position too.
This is definitely a lesser of two evils election for me. I might have voted for Lieberman, but not the rest of the pack.

I agree that the dem pool is pretty pathetic, but I have much trouble seeing how anyone can think of bush as the LESSER of two evils... open for explanation, but don't bother quoting the benefits of Iraq or the economy because I agree with the current Iraq policy and you can't relly make a clear cut case that the economy is Bush's fault as much as I love to think so. I'm more interested in other issues like healthcare, energy policies (research and tax cuts into new energy), foreign policy (getting america back into a respectable position) and perhaps somone who can at least argue his viewpoints in live press conferences... anyway I've grown to respect lebell and ustwo as intelligent conservatives so please enlighten me as to how this eveil is lesser

It's a bit scary that we're basing who we vote for NOT on the merit of their achievements, but because there is "nobody better out there".
While this election will be different for me, as I am determined to get the incumbent out of office, I always vote my conscience. If there is a canditate out there who's voting record and proven philosophies somewhat resemble mine, that person has my vote. Granted, to date, they've basically been garbage votes, but I feel it is better to go with who I'd like to win, rather than bandwagon on with a canditate that's more likely.

I dont care about dems and reps, I too will vote FOR the candidate I think is best regardless of party. I agree that it is better to vote for than against, but as I said above it is better to vote for the lesser of two evils and I cannot see at all how bush is the lesser of any evil
