It's obviously still Beck, but it's only good, not great. Too many songs are hookless and blend into one another, and I find the (over)production irritating sometimes. Still, "Lost Cause", "The Golden Age" and "Little One" are all great.

I personally am pleased to see Beck put together an album demonstrating his songwriting. A great chronicle of a broken heart...and some nice country-laced tunes.
Guess I'm doing fine is brilliant...a haunting tale full of a melancholy sarcasm that openly lays the singer's open wounds out for all the world to see... All in all, I think it is great...I think we might see a new phase of Beck...

I think this album is one of the most beautiful records I have ever heard, but I don't think I would have thought so if I hadn't listened to it in my room, with headphones, all by myself. I recommend it to anyone who is listening to it for the first time, because the album is very musically simple but has little things here and there that really try to tell you what beck is feeling (in my opinion, anyway). Some listeners don't like how simple it is in comparison to his last few, but I think its absolutely amazing.

After realising that the Lips were opening for Beck, I started recognising bits of similarities (effects, etc) in Sea Change that mirrored those in Yoshimi... The past two albums that have gotten the absolute most spins in my CD player have been Yoshimi and the Pink Robots and Sea Change.... Do you guys think that the Lips influenced Beck, or the other way around?

This albums really, really good. I didn't expect this from him, but he pulled it off so well.

This cd is great in small doses. It's not that the songs are bad--it's just that after about 5 in a row, I'm either sleepy or suicidal. I understand that he has depth and range and, I believe, he was just coming off of a relationship break-up....however I still prefer his funkier side.
Good....just not great.

Yeah, Beck can really kick out the funk when he wants to, and Sea Change isn't really an album for him to dance to.
Didn't he tour with the Flaming Lips for this album? I think I saw him on austin city limits with those guys...

The CD is great.
Beck toured last year with the Flaming Lips, which I heard was awesome. I just saw him 2-3 months ago and loved it. He continues to be fun to watch evolve. How many of you out there thought "Loser" was a one-hit wonder? I did. Thanks for listening. |

I think that The Lips influenced Beck first. I remember the first time I heard Sea Change - I heard Wayne & crew's stamp in there. That being said - I think backing up Beck on tour did a lot for the band. They're selling out bigger venues now. Hell - they're even playing with the Dead...
