Cross Country Playlist
In July 2010 I will be moving....driving 40 hours across the United States.
I need some tunes for the drive. My question to you...what songs would be a MUST on your cross country road trip playlist??? |

I like the entire Garden State soundtrack for road trips. Elizabethtown soundtrack is pretty good, too. And Tom Petty's Highway Companion album.
Honestly, I just try to stuff everything onto my ipod and put it all on shuffle. I have enough music that I can skip a bunch of songs and still fill up 40 hours pretty easily.

Mandatory Cliche Road Trip Starter List:
Whitesnake - Here I go again Tom Cochrane - Life is a highway Sammy Hagar - I can't drive 55. Steppenwolf - Born to be Wild Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird The Allman Brothers - Ramblin' Man Foghat - Slow Ride Steve Miller Band - Jet Airliner If you get a pulled over, and decide to set the mood, I recommend playing John Cougar Mellencamp's "Authority Song". Less cliche than "I fought the law" but still gets the message across clearly. It's not a classic road trip song, but Van Halen's "Humans Being" always seemed to be the sort of thing that should be played when you're going way too fast down the highway in the middle of the night.

The Gorillaz "Demon Days" album.
Old skool hip hop... 69 Boys, Sir Mix-A-Lot, etc. Then I add in some Ludacris, Ice Cube, 50 Cent, even a little Lil John and Usher and Ying Yang Twins. Toss in some Eurythmics, Peter Gabriel, Afro Celt Sound System, Blondie, The Cars, and A-Ha. Sprinkle with Keller Williams, 311, ALO, Phish, Pepper, and Dispatch. I need a big mix or I get bored. And, I like to seat dance while driving because it wakes me up. Especially this song. Because it makes me smile.
