Looking for suggestions for some soulful, honest down-home gospel music. It should be warm and preferably sung sweet and joyously by an african-american lady and perhaps accompanied by a church choir. any suggestions, pointers or artists appreciated.

You might enjoy the works of Sallie Martin, Mahalia Jackson or Clara Ward amongst others.

Thanks a lot. I heard the most incredible voice on the radio yesterday singing gospel and Im trying to find out who it was. so thanks for the leads.

If you remember some of the lyrics you can try Googling them and seeing what comes up. It's worked for me before.
