Blair is a local musician who plays about 3 or5 gigs a week in various bars around St. John's. His style is best described as rockabilly/blues.

As always I agree whole heartedly. Sleeping Lessons still gives me chills. Chutes is best by far; although Oh Inverted Word grew on me after a long time and I have a feeling this will as well.

Jenny Lewis and The Watson Twins was amazing. Really enjoyed The Creek Drank The Paddle which I just picked up. Not as good as Our Endless Numbered Days but I still enjoyed it.

Its not actually released until February 6, so this is probably a promo or advance copy. Either way I had to grab it because Eleni Mandell is my current favorite female solo artist, and has been for at least the past 5 years.

A Camp - A Camp
Nina Persson from the Cardigans side project. Was the prelude and possibly major factor in the sound that came from the Cardigans following album "Long Gone Before Daylight". I thoroughly enjoyed both of these albums. Note: This is an Import title and only cost $8.00. Buy? YES.

Probably the only Ryan Adams album I can listen to from beginning to end.

I haven't decided if I like this album (Rhys Fulber) or Delerium - Nuages du Monde (Rhys Fulber & Bill Leeb)

Because I really liked her album "Tonight and the Rest of My Life" from 2000. And the song of the same title. After she left Veruca Salt.

Leigh Nash has a wonderful voice. Anyone remember the rest of the band? Sadly, no. It could have been Leigh Nash & Sixpence None The Richer, or Sixpence Featuring Leigh Nash for all we know. In any case, lovely album.

spleen, I think that Conjure One CD was really disappointing. The first one was great though.

The last CD I bought was Front Line Assembly - Artificial Soldier. I was surprised to find it at Best Buy when I was trolling through, looking for a way to blow the $20 gift certificate I got for Christmas.

How is it? Well, for FLA, I like Civilization a lot more, but its one of their best efforts anyways. This album plays like a "greatest hits" mashup... a mix of what was good about their old style with some of their new style flavor. Too bad there aren't any brilliant moments. My favorite track is Future Fail, featuring vocals from the Front 242 dude.

That'd be a YEA. Vocals aside, it reminds me a lot of Tigermilk and The Boy With the Arab Strap. Which, of course, is a very good thing.

Lewis/Watsons, oddly enough, was my least favorite of the four. Bought it based on the cover of "Handle With Care" and... guess I was just expecting more or something. Plus, those other three satisfied me well. Beth Orton was a nice surprise, like Sarah McLachlan with much better consistency. (She never did top "Building a Mystery", as I see it.)

Unfortunately I would have to agree. The worst part is that I'm either mildly obsessive compulsive, or a completionist and couldn't pass up the album regardless of whether I enjoyed it or not. I had downloaded it a few weeks ago and was pretty much bored out of my mind. On the same note, the Delerium - Nuages du Monde just doesn't sit with me that well either. I only listened to it once though, and I'm hoping both albums grow on me with time.

*Edit - Since only listened to both albums once and only once each I'll have to refrain from making any further comments on either album.

*Edit2 - warrrreagl, you just forced me to download Camille's Le Fil album off Soulseek.

Well this is kind of embarassing for myself. I was organizing my CDs, and I came across my Conjure One - Extraordinary Ways album. That I bought in 2005. So I now have two copies of the album, whoops!

I guess it didn't make that much of an impact on me at the time then either since I bought it again as a used CD ($6 so not bank breaking).

I went to a show here in capital city to see a guy named Royal Wood. He's an up and comer Torontonian. He has a few albums out, but the one I purchased is called A Good Enough Day. Not a bad effort. If you want to sample a few tunes, I suggest "Juliet", "A Mirror Without" or "The Spirits and I".

The band put on a great performance at the 2005 Austin City Limits festival on both the smaller stage to cover for an act that could not make it, and on one of the main stages. Hopefully this CD can help pin down their great live performance


Lizzie West & the White Buffalo - I Pledge Allegience to Myself
Her first album, Holy Road, was really really good. Now that she named her band as part of the artist, there may be a wider range of sounds.


Everything But the Girl - Like The Deserts Miss The Rain
Compilation that includes a lot of their early acoustic stuff. I remember downloading it about 4-5 years ago in college, but finally got around to buying this great partial 'best of' album

Feist is a repurchase, after a loan to a friend turned indefinite. $6 used, so what the hey. Casket Lottery is emo hard rock along the lines of Cursive. The EP has three crap tracks and one solidly good title track, but $3 used, so what the hey. It was a what-the-hey kind of day.
