f150 not starting , help anyone

OK i am an automotive idiot, i can change the oil and 2 weeks ago i changed the started and celinod relay.

Now the car is not starting again, i worked fine for 2 weeks however since changing, when the key is turned to start it , the car does not always start.

92 F150 v6 if there are auto guys or gals out there.

Could the starter be faulty? could i have messed up the install but the starter still work? could it be the alternator or the battery or the ignition switch?

sometimes it clicks sometimes it does not, the clicking i think is the celnoid working good. checking the work now to make sure it was not a screw up.

If it's just clicking, it may not be getting enough power to turn the starter. Check your battery cables and connections to both the started and the solenoid. If the connections are tight, you might just have a battery that drained and needs recharging. How old is that battery? Have you tried jumper cables?

just tried jumping the battery and nothing, when i was changing the starter the guy at sears said the battery was good, but i am going to take the batt, now to get retested and see if maybe the 1st guy was a moron, because i have got zero power, not even enough to keep one little light on under the hood.

hmm....i had a similar problem on a '90 ranger. 4cyl, worst power output ever. But thats besides the point. All of a sudden, i would go to start it, put the key on the "on" position, and i would get power. i would go one more click to "start" and it would go click. then go dead. no power. would hafta disconnect the battery and then reconnect it. Thought it might be the safety switch on the clutch at first. Anyway, turned out to be a bad ground on the battery. The battery might be good, but the a connection is bad it could blow a fuse or somehting and not let it turn over. Somedays the connection might be just enough to let it start, and might jiggle too loose to start the next time.

Its more than likely a electricity FLOW problem, than a part problem or a lack of juice. Double check all your battery cables and grounds on the starter and everything, make sure they aren't frayed or loosely connected.

If the battery is ok, it's a bad connection somewhere. Check everything you touched when you replaced things, then check if you bumped anything else without realizing it. Your chasing a "gremlin" now.

battery was bad, and got a new batt, starts and starts again then no start.

I think FastShark is right , its gremlin time, i should have taken shop in highschool instead of running a BBS, stupid computers.

I took the truck into the dealer to see if they could track down the problem then maybe fix it myself.

I will keep everyone posted. Thanks for all the help, i need to get one of those books about my truck that shows all the details.

check the ground strap that grounds the engine to the frame. on older vehicles, these things tend to rust up and develop heavy electrical resistance. if it looks in good condition, remove each end and clean the end and the place it bolts to.

what do the battery cables look like? if you see lots of corrosion peeking out of the insulation, replace them. corrosion (like rust) leads to resistance (to the flow of electricity).

gotta agree w/ sion, if it's not grounded well it won't do the deed. however, if ticking then it's a solenoid problem. try getting a friend to tap the solenoid w/ a stick/broom handle while you turn the key.. quick diagnosis and much cheaper than dealer. if that's the issue take it back to where you bought it and tell em they sold you a beat starter. good luck man.

What you need to do is go to the front of your truck and look at the center of the grill the problem with your truck is circled there.

Jeep there is only one.
