Motion Sickness Relief?

I don't have motion sickness, personally, but my girlfriend suffers from it whenever on planes, boats, buses, etc. Rather than paying for and getting doped up on Dramamine (sans the non-drowsy formulas), I've seen these products at the Sharper Image and such, which supposedly relieve a person of motion sickness while worn. It looks like a watch, and you use some sort of gel with it to make contact with your skin. Has anyone here had experience with these or have any information on it? It's quite a pricey item, but I figure to buy this once instead of X amount of pills may be a worthy decision. So, if anyone has advice, please post.

Interesting item... I usually rely on peppermints and a nap.

get those accupressure wrist bands. non-electric.
it's just two elastic bands with plastic dots that go on your wrist. they work great. I was on a boat once and a girl was feeling really sick. I put them on her and within 20 minutes she was fine.

Put them on before you get sick... it works better that way.

I do a lot of work on boats and spend time out in the Gulf, sometimes 50+ miles off shore. Non-drowsy dramimine works fine for me - never got sea-sick even in a 21' boat with 7' waves. (and for the record, I do get sea-sick on occasion). My dad, a former navy man, also swears by the wrist thing - it hits some kind of pressure point on your wrist that helps stabilize your equilibrium or something like that.

People get different levels of motion sickness. if the over-the-counter dramimine doesnt help her, you could call your doctor, and ask for a scopolamine patch. These patches work very well for some people, and probably will be cheaper than the sharper image thing.... When my wife and I go deep sea fishing, she uses them with great success.

just a thought.

If the wrist thing works it is a one-time expense that will be around until you lose it. Sounds like it would be worth a try, even if you eventually find it doesn't work. Better than the drugs, even drousy-free.

I second this recommendation. My wife gets carsick easily, and I bought a pair for a bus tour. I thought it was bogus, but might work on a mental level, so I gave it a shot. It worked great for her, until she flipped them off of the pressure point when we were off of the bus and forgot to flip them back when she got back on. Instant queasiness, then she realized they weren't in the correct position.

Available in drugstores, but you might have to ask back at the prescription counter (even though it does not require a prescription).

These wristbands sound interesting, and much cheaper than the ones at Sharper Images. I'm going to give this a shot for whenever we may travel again. Thanks for the suggestions.
