Kayaking

If anyone is looking for a great way to get some excercise and enjoy the great outdoors I'd recomend Kayaking. I picked up a kayak a month or so ago and have been hitting the local lakes. It's great for the upper body and abs and you can't beat the scenery.

I love whispering across a lake with the ducks and loons. I use an Old Town canoe for my trips. I do cheat and put on an electric trolling motor for the long hauls to the trout waters or to troll. I have trolled to within 10 feet of an eagle and 20 feet of a mother moose with 2 calves. Great times for an old guy who likes to fish.

I have been talking about this with my friends and would really like to try it some time. Seems like something that would be most enjoyed at around 5 in the morning when no one else is around to ruin it for you.

Has anyone done any ocean kayaking? I've done some kayaking on a lake, but I'm really interested in trying out in the ocean. Is there a certain kind of kayak for it? How much do they usually run? Is there a good way to learn? (I obviously know nothing about kayaking)

I've done quite a bit of ocean kayaking, but i'd recommend only going out when it's warm, and after you've had a bit of practice. The boats you get are usually unskinkable ones (self draining and open toped) so that you don't screw up.
It's alot of fun, but you just have to get past the breakers, which can be harrowing at times.

I'm 2* (uk) and i do love to jump in a boat and pootle on down a river on a lazy sunday, nothing like it.
I've never been a big fan of polo or white water, always a tad to agressive for me, i'm much more at home, like said before, watching the wildlife as you go past, very relaxing.
