Returning to Manhattan
I'm finally taking my wife to NY as she has never been. The last time I was there I had an absolute blast and can hardly wait to get back. Anyway, I'm looking for any suggestions for *quiet* hotels in the midtown area. I would like to keep the rate around $300 per night. Thanks in advance for any help.

NYC isn't known for it's quiet hotels. I can suggest though something like the 1871 House since there is a BACK room that does not face the street and it faces the backyard and another guest room. Great for pairs of couples.
I lived on Carmine Street in the Village and since it was a back apartment it was very quiet. good luck! |

My friend was in town recently and stayed at the Hilton on 6th Ave and it was quiet in his room. The room was located in one of the top floors.
Enjoy, Glad

Thanks for all the replies. I rented a room on the 23rd floor of the Hilton. I figured if it's far enough away from the street that that would work.
Another question arises though. Does anyone who lives in New York have some insider suggestions for great restaurants? There are so many to choose from, it's difficult to decide.

if you are staying at the Hilton in Times Square it's actually pretty noisy, because there is LOTS of traffic on 8th and 42nd street, even though you are on the 23rd floor it's still not going to be the quiet you are thinking about.
Sometime in the AM I don't remember when but the garbage trucks do their pickups... and that sound carrries too. restaurants... www.nycvisit.com restaurant week is this week and next week, anything listed in that group of restaurants are quite notable. since you'll be not to far from me... there's lots of places I could recommend.... McHales, little bar on 8th Ave and 46th has some of the best wings and burgers. They do NOT take credit cards CASH ONLY! Edison Cafe in the Edison hotel, inexpensive eatery. It's also known as the Polish Tea Room, dunno why but it's like eating on the inside of a wedding cake. what kind of food or restricted diets do you have?

Wow, small world. Thanks for the info on the Hilton, I'm sure it will do just fine. Besides, I'm there for fun, don't wanna keep my eyes closed too much!
I have no food restrictions whatsoever as I'm one of those lucky people who never gains weight no matter what, and how much I eat.

The one I'm talking about is 2 blocks away from Radio City Music Hall on 6th ave. I think its called the New York Hilton. Restaurants? What kind and where? You have to narrow the field a little!! Glad

Sorry...Italian, French, Spanish (not Mexican) and Moroccan. I've heard nice things about a place named San Domenico, other than that, I have no idea. There are FAR too many choices.
Thanks for any and all help.
