Dog ate Green Fungus, Pls help identify

Does anyone know what specific species of fungus this is and whether or not it's toxic? I'm headed to the vet, but I'd like as much information as possible so I'm asking for help. Jack the Beagle might be in trouble.

Where was said fungus found? Indoors? Outdoors? What was it growing on?

...

Maybe it'll give him magical powers like Hunter S. Thompson.

Outdoors, cool, wet area, there was a cardboard box next to my recycling bin I'd planned to cut down and put in the bin last thing before the truck came and it was growing out of the bottom of that.

Growing out of cardboard? Hmmm I don't think I've seen anything like it before. My brothers dog eats all sorts of weird fungus kind of things and never seems to get sick...for some reason animals seem to know what the can and can't eat.

Regardless I'm sure a quick visit to the vet should fix him right up if there is a problem.

Best of luck.

If you can, place a sample of the fungus in an airtight container and take it with you. It'll help the vet identify whether or not there's a problem.

You most likely have nothing to worry about, but if you're that nervous you might as well make the trip, for your own peace of mind if nothing else.

It's a cup fungus. I don't think it's poisonous.

Btw, Dogs will eat things that are bad for them. Anti-freeze being a good example.

Like I said, I don't think it's poisonous, but if the dog has any noticeable discomfort, vomiting or starts having hallucinations, then you might wanna take him to the vet. You'll know he's hallucinating when he puts his paw in front of his face and moves it in and out while giggling...

Update: I took Jack to our very capable vet and she seems to think he'll be just fine. Just in case, they're doing extensive blood work and they're keeping him for observation. The fact that he threw it all up pretty quickly and hasn't demonstrated any neurological problems seems a good sign.

I appreciate everyone's help on this.

Please let us know all in well, after all. Hopefully Jack is back & better than ever.

In truth - Dogs do have amazing digestive systems and that is a real good thing...

Glad to hear it and I hope everything turns out okay.

It really is amazing though how animals can eat the most poisonous toxic stuff on the planet, vomit it up and not care...if I ate that I'd probably be dead in 2 hours.

His liver test came back with a bit of stuff in it, but the vet thinks he'll be okay. I have to watch him very carefully and force fluids over night.

I believe I've found your fungus.

Peziza repanda, or "recurved cup," a common woodchip fungus of the San Francisco Bay Area. Also see Rogers Mushrooms - Peziza repanda Mushroom for more info. This fungus is considered inedible by humans and I can find no information about dogs, although your dog's stomach seems to have made a clear statement on the subject.

Jack absolutely adores a diet of boiled brown rice and boiled chicken, which was prescribed by his vet to settle his digestive system (along with some meds). He seems to have suffered no lasting ill effects from the mushroom saga.

Yet another valuable post I don't remember making after taking Ambien. I woke up the next morning, turned on the computer, and wondered why my search history was full of stuff like "leafy green fungus" and "san francisco native lichens." This explains everything.
