My crappy college existence...part 2
Hey,
This is a follow-up to a thread I posted here a few months ago about me being miserable in my current college situation. If you need to know the situation, the thread is here. http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthread.php?t=111726 Anyways, there is a possibility I could be graduating early with my degree in December of this year, due to high school concurrent classes and summer classes I plan to take this year. I have made plans already after graduation to move out of this hick town immediately, to Texas where I will get an apartment with my one close friend who lives there. However, being that I go to a small school in a small town, there is a chance I could not get the classes I need due to not enough demand for them, which would hold me over an extra semester of two. In that case, I might consider some alternatives. However, like i mentioned in my other thread, that would require I disown my parents and give up my full paid scholarship. If I don't graduate early, I do have the option of moving to Texas anyways and transferring to UT and finishing my degree there. As unhappy as I am in my current situation, that sounds like an attractive option. Question is, would it be a wise move? Or should I just stick it out here until I can finish my degree on my scholarship? If I was to transfer, how would I finance it? UT is a real University and is therefore much more expensive than the community college level school I'm attending now. I would also be living off campus in an apartment with my friend who attends nearby St. Edward's University (no way could I go there). Thanks for any replies. |

The best way to see about financing college is filling out a FAFSA. (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ If you are looking at transferring to UT (Austin?) for fall 2007 then I'd apply to the school and get your FAFSA forms filled out ASAP. (I'm attending UT Dallas.) FAFSA determines if you are eligible for different kinds of grants, different kinds of loans or work study programs -- and how much. You need to have your taxes filed first. Depending on how old you are and whether your parents have claimed you as a dependent will also affect how much $ you are eligible for and how much stuff you have to fill out. You can handle it all online though. edit: Just thought of this. If you haven't applied to UT yet there is an option for doing it online - submit the entire application. I think it costs 50 bucks though. It's a state based thing, not school based. Last edited by oFia; 03-26-2007 at 10:13 AM.. |

Stick with the full scholarship! Suck it up & tuff it out! You're lucky to have a paid schlolarship and you should be grateful you're getting a higher education. Hick town or not, you wont be there forever.

Like you said, you could transfer to ACC (Austin Community College) and then move on to UT. Capital Metro (Austin buslines) are fairly decent for getting from hither to thither until you're able to secure transportation of your own.
OTOH, a full scholarship is nothing to sneer at. 2¢ |

If you're still at the point of suicidal tendancies, get out and do what you need to do for yourself.
If you have grown past that and can deal, with a better attitude, then finish your schooling and then get out. Be honest with yourself. Be accountable to yourself.

Thanks for the replies. The only thing keeping me here is that leaving would mean giving up my scholarship. It might not be a bad thing, the school I attend is very low-level, even ITT Tech would be an improvement as far as the school itself. Its just not everybody gets the opportunity for a free education and I would feel guilty for giving that up.
