Best plot twists/game surprises *spoilers for sure*
Just seeing what plot twists have really just knocked you out cold. Be it treason, love triangles, ancestry, all that good stuff. Figure on there being spoilers here.
Or any other suprises, such as the second quest in zelda? |

I would say in KOTOR I was very surprised when I found out that I was really Darth Reven - I suppose I shoulda seen it coming, but it never really occured to me...
Also, in Mario Brothers, I was throughly surprised every time the princess I was looking for was in another castle

I was shocked by KOTOR, too. My hubby had the greatest time watching my face while I was playing, lol.
The upside castle in Symphony of the Night got me, too.

Far Cry - Very end of the game Spoiler: The guy who helps you through the entire game was just manipulating you the entire time. I can't remember his name right now, but that was a pretty good twist for me.

I saw the twist in KOTOR coming from miles away. Perhaps the fact that NWN was so similar in it's "twist" is what helped.

I was about probably 2 hours of gameplay away from finding out I was Revan when my roommate walked in and said, "did you learn you're Darth Revan yet?" He never understood why I was so incredibly pissed, but I was completely taken aback by this revelation. I never suspected it, even though in retrospect it seemed quite obvious. The one big surprise in gaming that I didn't figure out beforehand and I got spoiled.
I'm still pissed!!!

I really shouldnt of read this thread, but its hard to know when it could spoil pretty much any game heh. The obvious one would be Aeris, but since its been said ill go for Deus Ex 2's twist about illuminati etc, ill not spoil it more, but i enjoyed the storyline on that one.

Shit, I completely forgot. MGS2. The entire game. No specific part. Just the entirety of Metal Gear Solid 2.

I'm going to have to go with Deus Ex: Invisible War's "factions" actually being part of the same organization.

I'd have to go with KOTOR as one of them.. defenitely something I did not expect.... very damn well made...
Planescape Torment as well... Baldurs Gate when you find out your past and who Sarevok really is... I suppose its kind of obvious with all the hints but it wasn't expected |

wow. Im completely unable to come up with anything better than Aries in FF7, Darth Revan in KOTOR and Planescape (one of the best games ever, period). Although, come to think of it. The most shocking moment in KOTOR came from, me being a bad nasty jedi, my forcing the wookie to kill his twilek girl, which was just evil i admit, then taking him on the star forge mission, as he was my badass melee fighter. THEN, having him turn on me immediately at the beginning of the Star Forge, renounce his honor and life bond, then try to kill me for making him kill the girl. Pathetic attempt, I force Lightninged him right the fuck down, but still. It led to me using the line, "Last night I was forced to kill my own Wookie" on a buddy, something that is stil and inside joke with us, and has taken on a bit more of a pornographic meaning, as you can imagine.

System Shock 2!!! YES!!! Soooooo good! I agree totally with shadrock!
When we find out that the nice lady who's been helping us via radio all along is really the Evil Artificial Intelligence from the first game, GODDAMN. Add to that the fact that she's using our character to survive the onslaught of an alien race that curiously resembles the flood from Halo(I won't make any accusations) who have taken over the OTHER AI from the ship and they are blabbblabbuububbo...... this is where I get lost... That whole game was scary as hell too. Best FPS I've ever played. Puts DOOM III to shame, if not for the graphics. |

Yes, the reason I liked the Revan surprise in KOTOR so much is that it actually put me in a moment of disbelief, the very same disbelief that Luke had to face when he found out Darth Vader was his father. I felt like yelling "NOOO , IT CAN'T BE! THAT'S NOT TRUE, THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!" back at Malak. I mean it's one thing to put a good spoiler in and make the game close as possible to the Star Wars universe, but to actually re-create an emotion from Empire Strikes Back? Damn thats clever.

KOTOR is a given, one I haven't seen mentioned is at the end of Final Fantasy Tactics after the credits when Delita kills the girl, me and a friend had played through the game togethor and we were both completly speechless, with a few "that son of bitch" in disbelief later on. Next to KOTOR, FFT is the greatest story in video game history.
