Best plot twists/game surprises *spoilers for sure*
Just seeing what plot twists have really just knocked you out cold. Be it treason, love triangles, ancestry, all that good stuff. Figure on there being spoilers here.
Or any other suprises, such as the second quest in zelda? |
Chrono dying in CT is way up there... I was never surprised about Aeris dying in FF7 for some reason, Chrono dying surprised me far more.
|
I would say in KOTOR I was very surprised when I found out that I was really Darth Reven - I suppose I shoulda seen it coming, but it never really occured to me...
Also, in Mario Brothers, I was throughly surprised every time the princess I was looking for was in another castle :D |
I was shocked by KOTOR, too. My hubby had the greatest time watching my face while I was playing, lol.
The upside castle in Symphony of the Night got me, too. |
KOTOR #wan!
|
KOTOR was good. Can't think of anything else right now.
|
Far Cry - Very end of the game Spoiler: The guy who helps you through the entire game was just manipulating you the entire time. I can't remember his name right now, but that was a pretty good twist for me.
|
Halo for me, the whole Flood part of the game was kept very well concealed, and to me really changed the game around.
|
I saw the twist in KOTOR coming from miles away. Perhaps the fact that NWN was so similar in it's "twist" is what helped.
|
I was about probably 2 hours of gameplay away from finding out I was Revan when my roommate walked in and said, "did you learn you're Darth Revan yet?" He never understood why I was so incredibly pissed, but I was completely taken aback by this revelation. I never suspected it, even though in retrospect it seemed quite obvious. The one big surprise in gaming that I didn't figure out beforehand and I got spoiled.
I'm still pissed!!! |
I really shouldnt of read this thread, but its hard to know when it could spoil pretty much any game heh. The obvious one would be Aeris, but since its been said ill go for Deus Ex 2's twist about illuminati etc, ill not spoil it more, but i enjoyed the storyline on that one.
|
Shit, I completely forgot. MGS2. The entire game. No specific part. Just the entirety of Metal Gear Solid 2.
|
OH MAN!!! WE JUST BEAT METROID!!!
Guy A: Dude... Samus is a chic... Guy B: Yup... and a pretty damn hot one too... |

Best code ever. I could never beat that damn game. |
Sephiroth killing Aeris is the biggest shock for me.
After the shock wore off, I realized I lost not only her, but also the items and materia she had on her person. |
For those who got around to playing Final Fantasy VIII and IX, the whole relation between characters caught me off guard from VIII, and in IX, the whole plot about the second-world were total plot twists.
|
System shock 2, the whole game.
|
Planescape:Torment
The best written game of ALL time, bar none. The friggin game was one plot twist after another and all done so amazingly well. I swear that game had more reading than LotR. |
I would have to go with Darth Revan, Aeris dying, and in Hordes of the Underdark where I side with a dead Aribeth. MGS2 was good too. Deus Ex's twist with you brother is good too. I love games.
|
I'm going to have to go with Deus Ex: Invisible War's "factions" actually being part of the same organization.
|
I'd have to go with KOTOR as one of them.. defenitely something I did not expect.... very damn well made...
Planescape Torment as well... Baldurs Gate when you find out your past and who Sarevok really is... I suppose its kind of obvious with all the hints but it wasn't expected |

wow. Im completely unable to come up with anything better than Aries in FF7, Darth Revan in KOTOR and Planescape (one of the best games ever, period). Although, come to think of it. The most shocking moment in KOTOR came from, me being a bad nasty jedi, my forcing the wookie to kill his twilek girl, which was just evil i admit, then taking him on the star forge mission, as he was my badass melee fighter. THEN, having him turn on me immediately at the beginning of the Star Forge, renounce his honor and life bond, then try to kill me for making him kill the girl. Pathetic attempt, I force Lightninged him right the fuck down, but still. It led to me using the line, "Last night I was forced to kill my own Wookie" on a buddy, something that is stil and inside joke with us, and has taken on a bit more of a pornographic meaning, as you can imagine.

System Shock 2!!! YES!!! Soooooo good! I agree totally with shadrock!
When we find out that the nice lady who's been helping us via radio all along is really the Evil Artificial Intelligence from the first game, GODDAMN. Add to that the fact that she's using our character to survive the onslaught of an alien race that curiously resembles the flood from Halo(I won't make any accusations) who have taken over the OTHER AI from the ship and they are blabbblabbuububbo...... this is where I get lost... That whole game was scary as hell too. Best FPS I've ever played. Puts DOOM III to shame, if not for the graphics. |
im going with megaman x comandmisson x
***spoilers*** U find out taht cornel redips and spider are on in the same, and they both are agasint u. And that redips just used u to get the supra force metal. If u used ur mind u coulda of figured itout earlier spider redips backwards spider is redips |
Findong out that i was Darth Revan in KOTOR blew me away fro some reason, i just kinda sat there in awe, i know i should have seen it coming, but still....
MAN that game was so amazing!! |
KOTOR was great entertainment. Totally didn't see it coming the first time, although re-playing it I saw where it did get setup some. Btw, please use the spoiler tag or something, I just got Deus Ex 2 ruined.
|
Yes, the reason I liked the Revan surprise in KOTOR so much is that it actually put me in a moment of disbelief, the very same disbelief that Luke had to face when he found out Darth Vader was his father. I felt like yelling "NOOO , IT CAN'T BE! THAT'S NOT TRUE, THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!" back at Malak. I mean it's one thing to put a good spoiler in and make the game close as possible to the Star Wars universe, but to actually re-create an emotion from Empire Strikes Back? Damn thats clever.
|
I would have to say the whole of Xenogears with honourable mentions for Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2, as all three games have so many awesome plot twists it just takes too long to mention them all.
|
KOTOR and Wing Commander 3 when Hobbes turned. At least I think it was WC3 and his name was Hobbes. I also freaked when I realized the mechanic chick was really Ginger Lynn. Zoinks.
|
I tried to think of something original, but KOTOR was the only one that really came to mind, Halo is up there too. There is a really old mac game (~10 years) called 7th guest that had some pretty good twists to it as well.
|
FF6 - When Kefka blew up the world.
|
KOTOR is a given, one I haven't seen mentioned is at the end of Final Fantasy Tactics after the credits when Delita kills the girl, me and a friend had played through the game togethor and we were both completly speechless, with a few "that son of bitch" in disbelief later on. Next to KOTOR, FFT is the greatest story in video game history.
