Perplex City - ARG
So, it's an ARG, not a video game, but I think this is the place to post about it. www.perplexcity.com is the site. It's pretty interesting. You solve puzzles from cards you can buy and you try to solve the mystery of where this cube was hidden on Earth. In the end, the first person to find out the location of the cube wins $200,000 (in real money, not ARG money).
At any rate, if anyone else is playing, perhaps we could trade duplicate cards (with the stuff NTO scratched, of course). Let me know... |

I've seen a couple posts about it before on boingboing.net. It sounds to be very fun, but I don't have enough time to commit myself to do it. (Plus, the cards sounded a bit pricey, weren't they $3-5/pack ?
If I were a teenager (ok, younger teenager) when this had first came out, I would immediately do it. catcha back on the flipside, will.

What an odd time to chance upon this post. I just signed up and started playing today as well. I did the first two free puzzles from the site and am on my way out to pick up my first pack of cards. Do you know how many cards you get per pack?
This is a really cool idea for a game, and I hope to see more ideas like this in the future. If you like to figure out puzzles, solve clues and the like, I'd highly recommend going to the website and reading a little about the game and trying your hand at the first two free puzzles. I'm addicted already!

glytch- you get 6 cards per pack. They're also largish cards (I was expecting baseball card sized, but they're at LEAST double that size). The "harder" puzzles are actually pretty difficult in many cases. The "easy" ones range from easy to medium. I'm impressed so far. If you get the starter kit you get two packs of cards, plus a "bonus" sticker that is a puzzle and some other interesting game stuff as well.
ratbastid- Yeah, I feel the same way. I'm just not strong... *sigh* |

Sage and I have been doing these lately also... We have a fairly big stack of duplicates that we'd be up for trading, so feel free to send a PM if you'd be interested.
Overall I'd say they're fun and really make us think. We've just recently picked up a subscription to Games magazine after I replayed some really really old computer puzzle games from my youth (The Fool's Errand and 3 in Three, both by Cliff Johnson. These are available for free from his website or from The Underdogs and are really great.) Between this, the sequel Cliff is putting out to Fool's Errand and the Volvo competition to find the buried car it seems like meta-puzzling kind of stuff is taking off. I'm excited to see what comes of it as I find it to be highly enjoyable.
