Reusable pads

A friend on another board posted about this and Im curious.....I know we have a thread on the diva cup, but to be honest I dont see me using one, unless someone that found tampons painful tells me they used one and its different. I am far to "short" inside to get a tampon in and not have it be REALLY uncomfy...anyway the girl bought a diva cup and reusable panty liners from here

Im wondering if anyone has ever used the pads (especially for heavy flow) and what they thought about them?

I have a really hard time with skin sensitivity so even the pantiliner that I had to wear at the gym in anticipation of this month's hemorrhage (it's been four months since the last, so I'm being careful) ripped my poor skin to shreds. I don't know if I could handle something reusable.

But I, too, am quite "short" but found that tampax compact in the yellow box actually works well... they're only about an inch and a half to two inches long, I think. But the string causes the same reaction if I don't change them frequently. And I'm HEAVY at times. Good luck, Shani.

my only concern would be the ickyness of washing them... do you just chuck them in a bucket or what?

I use the OB tampons; they don't have an applicator, and they are fairly small
I reccomend them

When i was walking around in Vancouver, I perused a shop aptly named "Womyn's Wares" and other than the selection of dildos, harnesses and condoms that they have, they also had the reuseable pantiliners that you showed.

Get this, they had reuseable TAMPONS!!

TAMPONS made out of sea sponges. I am not brave enough to try those, but I thought it was a good place to post this information

At first just reading the subject made me feel a little nauseous, but then I thought: people have reused cotton nappies on babies for years, why not pads?

Yeah, I'd use them if I had a way to clean them at home. As it is, I have to go to the laundromat.

They sell these in my town and I've seen them advertised in Bitch magazine. I think the Lunapanties tempt me the most--I would like the extra coverage. Perhaps once I have a washer/dryer at home, I'll give it a try.

One of my friends uses the diva cup. She claims it's low-profile and more comfortable than tampons. I'm afraid I don't have more to contribute.

I use a Diva cup and I love it. It does take some getting used to, and you definitely have to be comfortable with your own body and it's fluids, but once you go, it's hard to go back. I've also noticed that I have *zero* cramping with the cup, but if I use just a pad, it's back.

As for reusable pads, they're usually made out of dark colored flannels. Most people soak them in cold water before throwing them in the wash, but it's not really necessary.

And if you get irritation from conventional pads, you should *really* consider reusables. That soft flannel is quite a treat after the harsh paper stuff of the disposables.
