howdy all, I've been a forum addict for about 4 years or so, mostly on music and political forums. very pleased to have found this one. mixedmedia invited me. I'm a nearly middle-aged, never-quite-made-it guitarist, and researcher, living in the midwest.

Hi all! i noticed a discussion on one forum about water balloon launchers, I couldnt quite figure out how to post this there so im sending here instead...
I have an assignment to build a balloon launcher, using: a 100gram water balloon, Maximum of 1m of elastic(unstretched), threee pieces of wood. The design will be extremely simple, basically a slingshot, because we also have to predict the distance it will travel with kinetic equation of motion. Now rather than complicate matters and try to account for air resistance in equations, we want to reduce the drag as much as possible. For instance, we had the idea of freezing the balloons so that they wouldnt deform as much in midair and increase drag, but we weren't allowed...does anyone have a simple solution/idea how this may be done, without using anything apart from the balloon and water itself as much as possible?? thanks |

Hey, I guess I am new to the forums (I think I stumbled it, though I might have found it on some random google search), the last forums I was on was gamefaqs a while ago, although I liked having something else to do through talking online, it was frustrating dealing with some people. this forum seems like something that will be interesting, I will have to see what happens, maybe this will be a lot of fun
else I am a just a geeky student who wants to get a job in electrical/computer engineering. I also want to welcome the new people here who are in the same shoes as I am |
