I've got an idea for a character: The_Darth. He's a father of two kids who works in the medical industry, has two kids, and moderates an online forum. And he has a 4 sided saber.
Which period of time in the SW universe specifically will you be writing in? I mean the Sith were not common at all a few hundred years before Star Wars Episode 1. The Republic alone is nearly 25,000 years old by that time. What you might want to do is place it during the great war, the "Hundred-Year Darkness" which was a massive war between the Dark Jedi and Jedi.
