I'm currently involved in a campaign. It's only been going on for about a month, and we only get to play once a week if we're lucky, so it's not that far along yet.
I'm playing a Jawa bounty hunter/ aspiring force user. Yes, we bend rules to have more fun. Ha. It's set in the time of the empire.
You could definitely pull some good ideas from KOTOR if your game is set in old republic times. Maybe some spin-offs of the story line in that, characters that bring some familiarity to the game, ships and gear that are appropriate from that era, etc.
I'm not too familiar with that era myself. In fact my knowledge of the Star Wars universe is pretty much limited to the movies. That's why I don't run Star Wars games, I just play.
Best of luck to you though. Running a campaign in any RPG is no easy task. (I've been DMing DnD for years now.) My best advice is keep on your toes, and read aplenty.
