Service Industry probably means she is a waitress. Every pretty waitress will get hit on by 99% of the single men she serves so the ones that get tired of it will rather spend 5 minutes explaining the ring to the 2 or 3 guys she DOES want to know better and the rest of her time working and not making excuses about how she has to do her hair... Both my sisters have worked as waitresses and several friends both male and female so I know for a fact this is a common practice. As far as why she had the ring on that night ( which I'm sure someone will ask ). My wife wears several rings and she says she doesn't feel right when one of them is off.
