Cute lil' couplets for my sister
My oldest sister Mikie has a lot of dreams. She's sorta like me as I was a few months ago - stuck in a rut with too many obligations tying her in one place. She wants really badly to become a graphic designer. This year for Christmas, I sorta broke my budget a little for her... 'cause I wanna see her succeed. I got her a graphics tablet for her computer... something she can use to get to the next level of graphic design, and probably the last thing she'd ever expect.
I figured I'd write a little poem to her for her to read before she opens it up, but I couldn't think of anything besides rhyming couplets. I really detest rhyming couplets. Anyways, I wrote it ... and here it is.
Bear with me now
I'm used to free verse
because poems in couplets
always sound terse
My dear sister Mikie
I hope you approve
Because writing these rhymes
Is cramping my groove
I got you a present
that I know you'll enjoy
You could not predict it
it's yours to employ
It's perfect for you
and you'll see what's implied
when you tear off the wrapping
and stare starry-eyed
To art and to freedom
To future without doubt
C'mon, rip off the paper
and freak the hell out...
