Question about suppressors (silencers)
Say I have a Beretta M9 with a suppressor (hypothetically speaking, of course). Can I fire regular 9mm rounds with the suppressor attached, or do I need something special?
Any info is greatly appreciated. |
hypothetically, if you had a legal silencer, any 9mm round would work, I wouldnt wanna throw +p rounds through it, but regular rounds would be ok, but the silencer would be much more effective with subsonic ammo.
http://www.ammoman.com/webstore_9mm.htm 4th item down. I'd go into detail about how dangerous a home made supressor could be, but this is purely hypothetical, so theres no need. |
assuming all is legal/hypothetical... yeah.. should use subsonic ammo to make sure you eliminate the sonic boom as well as the muzzle blast with the suppressor. I would also suggets FMJ ammo.. although may not be necessary with certain types of silencers. Although w/ a professionally or at least well done one should not have an ammo preference.

Don't use anything overly hot. The thing you have to remember about suppressors is they trap the air and sound in hollow chambers before the bullet exits the end. This is fine and great and all, but has the potential to create massive amounts of carbon and send back down the barrel. Using any hot loads will produce more carbon.
Not a huge deal, just more to clean when you are done plinking. |
