Warning, it has some grim pictures, but maybe that is ultimately for the better.

So, I've seen alot of younger members talk about getting their first guns, but I'm never quite sure if they know of the awesome responsibility they are undertaking with firearm ownership.

You are literally taking your life and the lives of those around you in your hands, and you better be painfully aware of the fact.


My own story occured about 20 years ago when I was handling a rifle (a marlin .22 tube fed) that belonged to a friend of mine.

We had just finished up and had gone back to the ranch house and I was unloading the rifle.

Now tube feeds are notorious (as I now know) for having rounds hang in them.

So I've "emptied" the magazine and racked out the round that is in the chamber.

Now I've got a cocked but empty rifle, right?

So I point this empty rifle at a lamp (I was smart enough to know you NEVER point a gun at a person unless you intend to kill them) and I pull the trigger.

BANG!

A perfect shot, through the middle of the lamp and out the window beyond.

I was fortunate.

Unlike the guy at Glock Talk.



So all you guys new to guns, they are great fun, but you need to know that if you disrespect their awesome power, you can quickly meet with a disaster.

All the old time shooters always told me when I started shooting first "the devil loads your gun every seven years but he never tells you when"
Their way of saying always take it that your gun is loaded.

Wow that's just crazy. Reading his story at glocktalk made me cringe.. It's sometimes good to see and hear things like this to constantly remind people of what can happen when not paying attention.

I do need to be more careful, I don't take any ammo home from the range and I don't store any at home so I am a little bit safer.

Only about a month ago I was using a rental USP and I miscounted my shots, I thought I had done 10 but it was only 9, and on the last shot the gun opened automatically (I was having trouble with the USP's size). I briefly checked the chamber, and I missed the one round that was left inside because it was still inside the magazine (stupid). I handed it it back to them like that... was quite embarassing.

When you think about it the glocks method of takedown is obviously asking for an accident.

I learned my lesson after an unloaded pellet gun turned my whole hand purple for a week. I'm glad I learned my lesson with something less powerful, I'd hate to go through what that guy did.
