Got to shoot a .454 raging bull tonight

I was at the range tonight and was going about my usual business when the range master pulled out this ungodly beast of a weapon. It was a taurus .454 raging bull that had a 7 1/2 inch ported barrel and a nice scope. He pulled out his ammo and they were 300 grain reloads that he said were getting about 1,700-2,000 fps ( I might be wrong). Ill tell you after just one shot I knew this is the next gun I am gonna get. So, just for fun whats the biggest or most unique pistol you have shot?

Nice! Those things are freakish =)

My "biggest handgun" story is pretty dull - .44 magnum. Course I should probably mention that I was 6 years old when I shot it, and could barely hold the bloody thing (there was very close parental supervision of all this. My Pop may have been psycho-cool redneck, but he wasn't about to let me hurt myself or anyone else). The scary part, and this was told to me by other members of the family as I don't actually remember doing it, I controlled it better than my 16 year old uncle did. I didn't hit the target by a mile, but I also didn't wind up taking a chunk out of my forehead with the hammer spur like he did.

Shot a 12ga shotgun for the first time a year later at 7. I was a much better shot and came in third at the turkey shoot we were at. Damn, I've been shooting a loooong time.

As an aside, all of this occurred back in the 70's when a kid with a gun was no cause for alarm.

I'd like a .454 Casull. I've shot several calibers, including my 12-ga (3" Mag), Makarov 9mm, SKS, .22LR (just like everyone else), 30-30, 30-06, .357, .45, & a .243. None of these kick much, and in my opinion, the shotgun with 3" Mag slugs was the hardest on my shoulder and ears. I'm a fan of bigger is better, so I'd like to get a 10-ga with a 3.5" chamber...and use it.

While not the biggest caliber, one of the most powerful and fun to shoot is the Weatherby 30-.378 Magnum. It's basically a .30 caliber bullet in a .378 mag case that exits the muzzle at 3500+ fps.

the .44 magnum gave me a nice adrenaline rush. before that i've only shot different 9mm weapons and .22's
that was a big change. i could even feel the shockwave and felt pretty dam powerful.

A friend of mine just bought one of those new .50 Magnum revolvers. Can't wait to shoot the thing.

Moonduck 11-19-2003 02:55 PM

I'm with you there, EH. Only my friends are all weedy gits that would never buy something as buff as a .500 Magnum.

Moonduck, after reading your responses I have decided you are my gun Guru. I shall seek you out for advice in the future. Thanks!
Your humble student,
EH-

LOL, thanks. I'm a bit out of the loop though. I used to subscribe to a number of shooty rags, but haven't bothered lately. I have been a gun "nut" for a long time though, and my knowledge is complimented best by my ability to summon up hordes of words and have them occassionally be related to each other.

That said, feel free to ask, just make sure you cross-reference the answers.

The most unique pistol I ever shot was a home made .22 slide action single shot made by my grandpa in 1941.
