Question about LotR swords
I've been pondering buying Hadhafang, Arwen's Sword, and maybe Glamdring, Gandalf's sword. I've looked around and I've found both United Cutlery and Noble Collection as companies that buy them. I've heard that United Cutlery swords are bad quality though. Is this true? Also, are there any other companies that make LotR swords that I should look into?
Thanks a bunch.:) |
Heh don't know much about those companies but personally I wanted Narsil / Anduril - because that sword is the heart of the story lol.

well many swords you order off magazines and stuff like that are not too good because they are put into lables like *fantasy swords* so becuase of this they basically tend to be of shit metal, then have some kind of easily scrape off-able polish on top and also they tend to not be real weapons so its not even that fun to swing them around cause they are not built for that and you will probaly just end up stabbing yourself or breaking vases
|
Well this I mainly want for show, and I'm not gonna be scratching it or anything.
|
Have you looked at the Blade sword - Now that is cool sword.
|
If all you want is a sword to hang on your wall, then it doesn't matter where you get it. As long as it *looks* like what you want it to, then it'll serve quite well as a decoration.
If you plan to actually use a sword, though, don't get within a mile of one of those replica swords. They're horrible quality, the metal's usually crap, and they have a terrible tendency to be poorly balanced and uncomfortably heavy, because more thought has been put into their appearance than their functionality. |
I have a U.C. sword, and I've used it a bit, and I've had no quality problems. Then again, I used it instead of hedge clippers, not for fighting.
|
Heh, I'd be using it instead of plain wall, so I think it'll be fine.:p
|
BudK has it all. dunno about the quality but they look alright
They also have the blade sword and his throwing blade from the second movie. |
i got Narsil... its a beauty... ive been debating about actually hanging it in the dorms... but ive heard that if they find somethin like that they have to call the cops or whatnot... so it may just stay in my closet... only to be shown off when the doors closed and locked...
|
They're pretty, I'll give 'em that much. UC is fine for wall-hangers. Just make sure you get a quality plate and hang securely.
|
JStrider, where'd you get it? UC?
|
i got mine at http://www.swordsonline.com/ i went to them cuz they had a local outlet across the street from where i was working... and i wouldnt have to pay shipping... and they will match any non sale price you can find online...

Hey guys- just your friendly neighborhood sword dealer again- United swords are strictly wall hangers- pretty though- I swear I cried tears of blood when I heard they got the contract to produce those- The lotr swords are designed well, and functional, but United builds em out of stainless (which snaps when used as a sword) and the tang is a rat tail- ie junky piece of thread rod- sigh- they look good though- BE SURE you buy the authentic repro- I've been seeing some damn good pirated copies out of both china and pakistan- these in some cases are hard for me to tell from the originals and I do this for a living- Bud K sells the real thing and I belive they are the lowest price this week....

However, the Uruk-hai sword is actually made of high-carbon, so you might be able to use that one if you really wanted to... |
