I hope everyone doesn't mind me putting up pictures of the same gun (and reviving an otherwise dead thread) over and over again.
I took some pictures today of my rifle with some gear and came up with one exposure that I thought was Porn-grade quality. Hope you all like it: |

I have a free-floated forend. The Delta-Ring is different because the handguards attach differently. FWIW the fore end and ring are made by Larue and they are rock solid.

You are right, it wasn't for the rail space.
I keep experimenting with the weapons I buy/build. For this one I wanted the rail to extend over and protect a low-profile gas block. It seems to work well and I still have BUIS, just had to buy one sized right to fit on the rail. I can mount optics to the top of the rail and not have to worry about dropping zero. I can also grab further forward on the rail without burning my hands on the gas block, which comes in handy when I am trying to shoot very quickly. I think a regular front sight/gas-block is probably still the best general solution for a weapon that will be kicked around on a daily basis, but I like my setup for a home defense/etc. rifle.

Walt,
Love the Vtac Tube. Handled a M&P15 VTAC the other day and *loved* how the tube handled. You're gonna have to show me how to shoot 1/4 MOA, as I currently suck at longer ranges. (Cromp will tell you how I missed a 12"x15" target completely at 200 yards). YES THEY DO! So fricken compact! I've been meaning to turn the MSAR in to my dedicated HD gun, but lack of range time an training on the MSAR has me still using my trusty LW's. I've also been contemplating a suppressor...Seriously, the MSAR basically measures out lengthwise the same as a 10.5" AR--but with a 16" bbl. I'm sticking with the Aimpoint-T1 for now because I have the MSAR relegated to CQC sort of role...Besides, the ACOG is drop-compensated for a 14.5" barrel--which is what my LW's have. |

The first three round group was 0.224" with a straight right-to-left wind @ 5-8 mph. Then the wind really picked up to 15-20 mph (with stronger gusts here and there) and spread the second three round group out to 0.462".

Shitty optics? I'd be glad to take those Aimpoint and Trijicon products.
I'd sell 'em to buy a couple of the new EOTechs. *rimshot* The Glock 34 has to be my favorite sidearm. I'm confused as to why many security companies use the smaller Glock 19 as their sidearm. The trigger is acceptable (but no ~3.5#), the slide release is a rack'n'go, the mag release is pathetic, and the pistol grip isn't as filling in larger paws. Why?! I just recently bought a G19 so I could train with it. It's not a bad carry gun and I use the G17 mags in it for Cool Guy Wannabe classes. Defending my Gun Nut Man Honor: Before you guys rag on me for the M6X (laser) mounted on the G34, please know that I got it for a fell-off-the-truck dirt cheap price and that my cat loves the dot... basically the only time the laser is ever used is to turn him into a skittering feline cyclone. ... The G34 needs night sights and the G19 needs a new slide release, mag release, and trigger surface and a ~3.5# pull. Last edited by Plan9; 04-06-2010 at 09:57 AM.. |

The 4506 is a pretty gun but I prefer shooting my 1911s.
I snapped that photo because it's now up for sale after sitting in my safe.

I don't know if this is proper gun porn, though I thought I would throw it out there.
I took a section of 0.75" thick mild carbon steel (often used for industrial structural support) to the range with me today. I wanted to see if the issue M855 green tip would live up to the hype of being able to penetrate steel up to 0.25" @ 100 meters and 0.125" @ 600 meters when fired from a standard length M16A2. From a 14.5" barrel @ roughly 30 meters, I the three shots averaged 0.5166" of penetration, with an entry hole diameter average of 0.6501".
