Internet Explorer OR Mozilla and Japanese Characters

Does anyone know how to enable either of the above browsers to let me type in Japanese characters (specifically Hiragana)? I downloaded and installed the appropriate language packs, so I can see the characters on the webpages now, but I can't type in Hiragana.

I want to be able to fill in this kind of thing, but I can't figure out how to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -Tamerlain |

I think you need to go to:

Control panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages (tab) > Details > And just "Add" whatever language you need. Then you'll see an "EN" besides the arrow on the bottom bar, (or it might be a short, separate toolbar) click on it and select the language you need to type in. That's what I did for entering Chinese, so your thing should be the same, I hope.

As fallsauce said, adding the language packs will let the browser/operating system display the particular languages, but then you need to add under the Region/Language options the ability to write in them - and that should bring up the Windows Language Bar, where you can swap back and forth between different keyboard layouts and input languages

Ok, I did what you suggested and I can select the Japanese language in the toolbar now, but I still can't type any characters. How do I do that? I've been looking around in the properties section of the Regional and Language Options, but nothing is really standing out.

I can swap between EN (United States) and JP (Japanese), but nothing happens when I type on the keyboard and I can't find anything to fix it. Thanks again. -Tamerlain |

I followed the directions here and had no troubles.

つなみ -- that should show up in hiragana. Basically, make sure you've got the right keyboard set up in the Language bar settings. I originally picked "Japanese keyboard" and nothing happened - so then I picked the Microsoft IME one the website showed, and it worked fine for me. I just had to switch to Japanese input, then within that the language bar was default set to "Direct Input", but I had to switch that to "Hiragana" and then start typing and it did the rest.

ありがとう ございます。 I think it will take some getting used to, but I'll be able to use a few websites my professor suggested to help me practice かんじ。 Thanks again. -Tamerlain |
