Firefox issue...anybody know how to fix this?
So on my work computer I use FF for 99 percent of things, there are a few things I still have to use IE for....today out of the blue FF isnt connecting to the net AT ALL...IE works fine on every site I try to go to, but FF is just sitting there doing nothing. I hadnt changed a thing. I came in and opened FF and it worked for about 30 minutes then somewhere around 730-8 it stopped dead.
Does anyone know what I should look at? I've already looked at the connection settings and tried playing with those...it was set as direct internet connection, so I tried putting the work proxy info it..still nothing :( God I hate having to use IE I've got 7 windows open for what I only have to have FF with 7 tabs. I talked to my buddy at the help desk here at work to ask if they'd done anything I should know about and she said not....so Im at a loss as what to look at next. I dont know much about my work pc other than its running Win2000 professional and its a pent 3 |
Is it firewalled, perhaps? Something must have been updated somewhere.
You could also try a new profile, and see if there's something screwy in the profile. |
I made a new profile and its working fine!!! Thank you thank you thank you
|
Do you know what parts of the profile can be copied from the old to the new? You will definitely want 'bookmarks.html'; you might also want cookies.txt, mimetypes.rdf, signons.txt, hostperm.1, key3.db; and perhaps formhistory.dat, history.dat, and prefs.js.
|
ok, thanks, I will try to figure out where those are and where to copy them too :)
|
Forget about the new profile. Uninstall Firefox from Add/Remove Programs, and then download the latest version from getfirefox.com. It will install and keep all of your existing bookmarks and extensions/themes as well as keep you on the default profile. That way, you don't have to worry about copying stuff over to another profile, and you have the latest version of FF.
|
Bendsley, if the profile is messed up, then upgrading to the latest version woudn't change anything.
I thought of a simpler answer, however; perhaps under File, was "Work Offline" checked? |
I will agree with Red, thats one of the first things I did and it didnt make it work at all
and no work offline wasnt checked |
Have had the same problem, have to reboot the comp. then it is ok.
|
Yeah, it's 'cause sometimes firefox hangs when you close it and doesn't want two iterations of the app running on the same prof.

*cough* GO IE!! *cough*
Glad you got it working! -Lasereth |

anyone know if firefox will ever allow you to search in form fields? allegedly it used to have this feature, but anymore? I couldn't find an extension for this either. also, someone needs to come out with a spell check extension as cool as iespell...

Is your work computer used by anyone besides yourself? It's possible that someone might have input a proxy address into the settings and the proxy was down. I've had to check that on many computers on our network that can't pull a webpage because someone tried to get around the content filter.
