Windows XP Home v. Windows 2000?

I'm getting a refurb eMachines that comes pre-loaded with Windows XP Home Edition. From what I understand, Home Edition is built on ME, while Pro is built on 2000. My computer now came with ME, which sucked balls, so I loaded it with 2000, which I really enjoy (other than the fact that you can't keep programs running in multiple profiles at the same time).

I was wondering; do you recommend I keep XP Home? Or do I just get rid of it and load up 2000? It'll be awhile before I receive the refurb in the mail, so you guys have a lot of time to compare and contrast. Just no flame wars please. Thanks!

The Home edition is not built off of ME and the differences between the Pro and Home are minimal.

Keep XP Home

question really is what do you do? if it is a single machine connected to the net, home will do what you want. My understanding is that it is basically XP Pro with the networking dumbed down.

I'd take 2000 Pro over XP Pro anyday. But that's mainly based on the fact that I hate the fisher price look of XP. (yes I know you can go to classic view)

In my experience XP is way more stable than 2000.

Who the fuck told you that one? Whoever said that needs to be

ME was the LAST operating system based on the 9.x kernel, and if it ever makes a comeback i'll tie my legs to a tree. Yeah.

All versions of XP and 2k are based on the NT kernel. Thus, it's fair to say that XP is to ME as 2k is to win98 (as 98 was 9.x)

I hated that look too, and I resisted XP for a while because of that. Then I realized how dumb of me that was :/ Just change the color from blue to silver. Then everything looks fucking AWESOME. It matches the default winamp skin

Naw. XP Home allows for easy setup of mutliple user profiles with passwords. Setup only one profile and password it...your Dad'll be stymied.
