File Transfer between Mac& PC
I have a PC running Windows 2k with about 10gb worth of files I want to transfer to my Apple iBook running OS 10.3.7. I'm wondering what is the easiest and cheapest way of doing this without burning a whole bunch of cd's
Both have USB and an Ethernet. Is there anyway to hook the computers up via one of those connections? Thanks |
I do know that you could get a crossover cable and plug it into the NICs and that should connect the two computers, but I have no experience with connecting a MAC and a PC, so it could not work.

From Apple's "Switch" webpage:
"Macs can also connect to the same networks as PCs and share files over the network using the SMB/CIFS file sharing protocol." I'm sure you can Google that and find the how-to's. |
Assuming that the PC and iBook both have firewire ports, you can boot the iBook to target mode by holding down the "T" key on startup, which will make it act like an external firewire drive. All you'd need is a firewire cable to connect the two. I know this works with WinXP SP2, and should with Win 2k as long as you have the most recent service pack.

ftp them from one machine to the other...

If they are on the same network use samba!
just enable file sharing in windows, and enable file sharing in macs and you will be able to mount the shared drives with eachother. |
I say the same thing as jonjon42 above, use Samba
