trying to get video in/out of computer

1.8g P4
1024 ram
aardvark lx-6

video card is MSI g4mx440-vtp

the card has a 9-pin video in/out which has a special adapter, with s-video in/out and rca in/out.

i have installed all the tv tuning, video capture, display drivers, etc. that came with the card. i can't figure out how to get video out of the card though.

do i need special software to make use of the video output??

what i'm wanting to do is make videotapes of dvds

any guidance would be appreciated :-)

if i disconnect the monitors, it will recognize the video out and i can see the boot process on the tv through the "XP Professional" screen. then it goes blank, i can't see anything after that

On my GF4, I think you have to go to Display properties -> Advanced -> then some Nvidia tab and then -> Detect Displays. I think that's for plugging in a TV (both ends of RCA or SVideo cable must be plugged in before detecting). This is for if you have a monitor connected, then you connect a TV.

Or the way I have it set up now, I don't have a monitor, just the TV. I don't have anything else plugged in when I boot up and don't connect anything else and it works just fine.

for DVD to VHS you might need to turn off macrovision or whatever, by the way. Not sure if you need to do it

turn down your resolution and refresh rates. TVs (no matter how big they may be) sometimes cannot handle high refresh and resolution. You say you can get up to the boot screen, if you can't get the resolution down sufficiently you can always hit F8 and boot into "VGA Mode" (i can't remember if you need the windows cd in for this or not)

hope this helps

when i go into the display settings and select the tv as the monitor, i just get this yellow and grey fuzz on the tv.

i haven't tried lowering the refresh rate yet. the boot screens look so shitty on the tv though, i'm kind of discouraged

You may need a macrovision buster, then. AKA, "Video Stabalizer"
