I hear ya. Seems so crazy to pay more for the shipping than the parts. But maybe you'll need some solder...??? Or how about a nice Fluke 112 multimeter?
The closest thing I found was at http://www.mouser.com. They have many different ones available, but the shipping unfortunately starts at 5 bucks. You might try a recycled pc store. Buy a trashed motherboard from two years back, then just desolder the parts you need. It'll be cheap, and you'll get some desoldering practice to boot! |

The company that manufacturer's that exact connector is called Keystone Electronics. Their distribution network includes the big distributors such as Digikey.
Go here to find the web page with the part you are looking for, it is the exact one you specifiy above. On that page there is a request samples link. If I were you, I would just say you are a Engineering student looking for parts for your senior project, that way you may be able to avoid the follow up emails, catalogs, etc, if you don't want that stuff.

The cost of shipping little parts like this is why I have a room full of old electronic crap holding down my house.
Short of donor boxes you might consider cheap multi-port PCI 1394 cards. They're as low as $5 online, maybe $10-15 at Fry's. Pull one connector and you still have a useful card. I had starving EE friends who'd return the 2-port version. |

If you ever need small electronic parts like that contact a local tech school or college, my tech school used to order stuff all the time and all I did is tell the instructor what I wanted and he put it on the order.
