KDX 17SX 17" LCD Monitor - Ghosting
I recently purchased a KDS 17SX 17" LCD monitor just last night. Well, the thing is causing some major eye straining to the point of where I'm thinking of taking it back. I played with the adjustments on the monitor and even fidgeted with the controls on Window XP. The fonts, especially when just reading letters, causes the most strain to my eyes. It looks like the fonts are not sharp at all and they seem to be quite blurry. I hooked this monitor up to my Dell 4550 computer but reading anything on here is just bad. Would getting a new signal cable to hook between the monitor and computer do me any good or am I wasting my time? Any help would be appreciated as I have yet to get a response in the computer section on here. Any other ideas of what I can do to fix this problem possibly? Thanks in advance.

Most LCD monitors, unlike CRTs, will appear a little blurry if not run at their "native" resolution. I'm not an expert in monitor technology, but the LCD monitors at my school's computer labs are a strain on the eyes at 1024x768 resolution. Bumping up the resolution to 1600x1200 in XP's Display Properties solved the problem. The on-screen text was much smaller, yet crisp and easy to read. When I boot my PC the BIOS startup screen suffers from a little ghosting because it is running at 640x480 (I think) and not my native 1024x768.
Try changing your screen resolution by right-clicking on your desktop, clicking "Properties" and then the "Settings" tab. Drag the slider to change your resolution and see if your image appears any sharper. Last edited by itineraryDUCK; 02-02-2005 at 06:01 PM.. Reason: spelling |

I think itineraryDUCK hit the head on this one. The KDS website lists your monitor as having a max. resolution of 1280 x 1024. Anything besides this should give images with slightly blurred edges, since a pixel from the computer can't be displayed with a single pixel on the monitor. Another problem is that it's VGA instead of a straight digital signal, so you can't get a perfect picture anyway. But having the right resolution should clear it up quite a bit.
