Anyone using avant?

With firefox now coming out with a stable version (or at least a release quality version) - it seems like most folks are excited to see tabbed browsing. my question is, has anyone used avant browser? I use windows at work and needed a tabbed browser. It blows away firefox IMNSHO because it uses IE but only enhances it with the features everyone needs

Just wondering who uses it over firefox? I still use firefox on my desktop at home, but thats my best choice in linux.

Is it still possible to get spyware/adware etc...?

Well i wouldn't touch it with a 10,000 foot pole simply because it still uses IE to render it's pages. IE doesn't follow any web standards which is the main reason I don't use it. As a web designer IE makes my job much more difficult.

well its an unfortunate reality that IE is here to stay - so if we keep trying to avoid it, we are just going to make our lives worse in the long run. it does everything a normal user needs. blocks popups, tabs browsing windows, and is 10x faster than anything else out there.

i understand where you are coming from as a designer, but as a normal user, it cant be beat.

I'm not against IE as a browser, for many years it worked great for me. But the fact that it ignores standards is a big problem, a big problem that i'm hoping microsoft fixes in the next version. The fact that it hasn't even had a new version in years is another big problem. The internet is rapdily changing, but IE isn't.

This claim is simply untrue. I just tested this theory, and Firefox actually rendered every page i threw at it faster. And I know for a fact that Opera is even faster than Firefox in terms of rendering. This was probably true a few years ago, but isn't anymore.

ok, what I meant, was more that the load times are much different. Page rendering means almost nothing to me as a normal user. im sure I couldnt tell the difference either way - unless one was extremely slow and I needed to bitch about it! :)

ill also agree with the standards issue. we are looking at this from 2 very different perspectives. I just want it to work, and be easy. you want it to play nice. I also think its time for an IE upgrade.

Ahh yes Load time is much faster with IE and it always will be since IE essentially loads when windows does. Sorry for the confusion :)

that being said, I use linux as my primary desktop because I think MS did a lot of things wrong, so im not just arguing for the sake of arguing!

I've been using Avant Browser for a year or more now. It has tabbed browsing and ad blocking built in. It isn't bad if you need IE compatibility (which is why I use it) but I still prefer Firefox at home.

I've been using Avant for a while now at work. I started using it because I liked how it contained all the browser windows in one window. I use Firefox at home.

Give up the fight? NEVER! You'll pry Firefox from my cold dead computer...
Seriously though, using IE will in the long run shut people running alternative operating systems (Or just those that prefer some other browser) out from more and more web pages, something that I will never accept. Everyone should be able to browse the internet, and until IE starts being standards compilant (That is somewhere around when hell freezes over) I won't go anywhere near it.
