Other email programs other than Outlook Express?
I've been trying to setup the filter system on outlook express but instead finding it a frustrating bullshit experience.
I've been getting a ton of emails with no message, subject or "to" line. Just blank. There's no way of setting up outlook to delete these, in fact the rules system seems to be a huge pain in the ass. Is there another program that has more options for setting up rules and not just a few garbage settings like outlook? thanks! |
The full Office version of Outlook is much better for rules. But there's tons of other options, including various anti-spam programs. I use Mailwasher as anti-spam tool myself, on top of a dedicated linux mailserver with spamassassin. I used to get some 30 to 40 spams a day, but now get up to 5 (all detected by mailwasher), and that's only because I have set up spamassassin to be very lenient.

eudora is a nice email program

You might want to check out a product called Thunderbird. It's from the makers of Firefox, the greatest webbrowser available :D.

I use Outlook 2003. I've tried and tried to use Eudora, Thunderbird, etc. - but with upwards of 4GB of saved e-mails (all text), most programs just crash. I'd love to use something else, but unfortunately I don't have much of a choice at this point.
What I am working on is setting up a server to parse out spam better - I'm getting sick of it. |
I'd definatly recommend Thunderbird, it does a greta job filtering out my junk.
|
I used Eudora for years (I think the first version I had was for Windows 3.1). Just recently I switched over to Thunderbird. Both are great apps, although I think the filtering in Thunderbird is a little more robust.

Another Thunderbird user here. It's very easy to customize and has the best junk filters out there in my opinion. :)

Add in another vote for Thunderbird. If you use Firefox, you'll love Thunderbird, and if not, you still will ;) The spam filtering system is excellent :D
Aside for the page debianuser linked, you may want to also check out: http://texturizer.net/thunderbird/faq.html |
If you're looking for an overlooked jewel, look at PocoMail. www.pocomail.com. I use it and enjoy it quite a bit.

I use Thunderbird and Kontact [Linux] with my email.

I just switched from outlook express to Thunderbird on my PC, and it works very well. I think its the best free email client out there. Its easy to use, automatically transfers all of your settings from Outlook, a snap to customize, the junk filter is great, and it integrates very well with Firefox.

thanks everyone. I'm going to check out a few of those suggestions. Looks like a majority vote for thunderbird.
