pocket pc remote sync?

okay so ive got a pocket pc... but heres my problem...

I want to sync all my new contact info at my office, but not with my office machine. What I would like is either the option to sync all my data to my machine remotely at home, or better yet, to a remote site on the web.

My problem is that i have to constantly keep in mind my battery on my pocket pc... if it dies while im on the road i lose everything. What if im not home in a while and battery dies? I cant sync away from home...

regardless of my situation, ideally, Id really like a way to sync my pocket pc to either a website or to my home computer via the web from a remote machine.

Is there such a thing without have to do any VPN type stuff? If it doesnt exist, i think ill invent it.

Don't know anything about this, but this might be better suited to the Tilted Computers Board. Probably more people in there would know how to help out :)

for the palm there is Backup buddy which backs up to an SD card automatically.. there should be somthing similar to that for the Pocket PC

all the syncing to websites died with the dotbomb crash that I know of... you could try some of the specialty PDA forums.

Well, if you're running Windows XP Professional at home, it *might* be possible to sync via the Remote Desktop Protocol, but it's a long shot.

There's documentation for syncing Palms and Pocket PC's over Citrix MetaFrame's ICA protocol, (which runs on top of Windows Terminal Server, which is similar to--but not the same as--using Remote Desktop to "phone home"), but there doesn't seem to be any documentation for syncing over RDP (remote desktop protocol). Cynthetiq's suggestion of backing up the device to some kind of removable media would probably be a lot easier.

Do you just want to back up your data while on the road, or do you really want to sync with the PC at home? I'm just curious, how much info is going to change while you're away from that machine...

--edit--
check out this http://tinyurl.com/5wvnb ActiveSync over a VPN, very cool stuff

i guess its not really a matter of software and stuff like that. its more of a contacts and notes issue. I want to make sure they are all backed up and in case my battery dies, im okay....

//edit: then again everything im talking about makes entirely no sense at all. Considering that my ppc does NOT have integrated internet access, i HAVE to have my laptop to connect it to even if i wanted to sync over the web.

So i might as well just stick with activesync.

I guess another issue i had with it was that, i kind of wanted the ability to sync up without the data being on my work computer as well.

If you have a way to get back into the network at your home, office etc....(i'm talking VPN here) and you can connect to your computer, then you should have no problems.

ActiveSync 3.7.1 does allow for remote sync over ethernet.
