Something is very wrong
alright here's the story....a few nights ago is was just surfing the net and i guess i made a wrong click somewhere and a few windows and such popped up on the computer and vanished. i figured that i just screwed myself up by somehow installing some spyware and adware.....and i did. i rebooted my comp and found that when i pressed Ctl+Alt+Delete i had quite a few programs running in the backround that i didnt want. i have Ad-aware installed and just to be safe i also installe Spy-bot and SpyDoctor (i think thats what its called.)
i unplugged my ether-net cable and started running Ad-aware. i figured that i'd run the program, re-boot, and run it again until it wasnt finding anything and move on to the next program. well after a few times it was working, but during one reboot something really strange happened. i turned on the computer and three things were messed up. 1.) i had lost control of my mouse. when i booted up i could see it in the center of the screen, but it would go away when the machine was all booted up. 2.) the computer would only display in 16 colors. 3.) it would only display in 640x480 resolution. if i try to change my colors to anything higher or change the resolution it makes me restart the computer, and even then nothing is fixed. Windows Media Player isnt there either...its like i have no video card. and its a pain in the ass trying to get anything done using only arrows, enter, and tabbing, and i really want to know what is wrong. the computer itself is a little older but it gets the job done. i'm running Windows Me, with a 900 III, and the video card isnt stand alone and is one of those shared cards. i'm either thinking one of three things.....either some of this spy-ware/ad-ware is fucking up something, or i've got some sort of virus (not very likely because when this happened everything was running fine and i wasnt connected to the interne), or lastly i've killed something. does anyone have any sort of suggestions? |

At this point, a reformat is in order.
See if have a system restore disk or program. Boot into safe mode and see if that helps anything. If the computer does not even run in safe mode, reformat.

I'd suggest at least turning ActiveX to prompt, so that you can say NO before it loads anything. Even better would be to turn it off entirely and add Windows Update to your whitelist (because it uses ActiveX). Turning javascript to prompt wouldn't be a bad idea either.
Also, do a search for javacool's program, SpywareBlaster. It is useful because it innoculates you from many nasty items (you run it before you get hosed). |

alright...viruses....yes viruses. i managed to run my antivirus program, and its not good. i have it set to run every wednesday, both updating and scanning in the morning. so it was last week where i was infected. no mind you i havent used any P2P programs in at least 3 weeks, and i dont download much from the web, except for porn (and i think thats where these came from). so i'm figuring these came in through some web site. i cant find shit about these programs here, so i need some help.
msxmidi.exe Wszv.exe RkxWV.exe Yan1L.exe Ueryhsc.exe Rgo6Jd19.exe Uynb15r.exe these are them so far...and i cant clean any of them. i havent tried just deleting them, cuzz i dont know if i've got a backup i can use. i think i'm fucked. |

Once again, i suggest a clean reformat. It will solve every single one of your problems.
Your computer will be problem free, virus free, and faster to boot.

I had a similar problem like that once, running windows ME too... Anyways I had to fix this using only the keyboard which was really annoying. I didn't want to reformat so here's what I did. First go to the contrl panel folder. You can do this by typing tab and when it selects the Start menu icon press enter. Navigate to the System Icon. Open it and go to Device Manager. Check your videocard and mouse, using the arrow keys to open the +. If you see a yellow exclamation point open and it says something about Driver Errors then you'll have to do whats next. If not then you have a different problem then I did.
- Go to the run icon in the Start menu. - Type in c:\windows\system.ini if you see alot of nonsense text then go on. If not this is being caused by another error. By nonsense text I mean like black blocks and other symbols and no letters. - Go to the run icon again and type in sysbckup. - uncompress one of the zip files and fine a file called system.ini, Open this and see if there's any nonsense text. If there is go to another of the zip files and check. - save the system.ini file into the windows folder and replace the old one. restart and you should have your mouse and screen back again. - if you still don't have your screen back at normal colors redownload your videocard drivers and reinstall. I had those exact 3 problems you listed and didn't have a virus. Now if you do have a virus you can always use System restore found in the System tools folder. Hope that solves your problem. If you need help along the way send me a PM and I'll see what I can do.
