Usb 2.0
Ok i bought a external 200gb usb 2.0 hdd, and i plugged it into my computer which says that it is usb 1.1 and usb 2.0 compatible, at it runs at around 11mb/s, which is the speed of usb1, not 480mb/s which is that of usb2.
Does anyone know how to get usb2 running properly?~ |
Personally, it sounds like your USB ports are version 1.1 rather than 2.0? If you actually have USB 2.0 ports, I would make sure you have the correct drivers installed. Just a thought.

need a lot more info about your system. USB 2.0 if a feature of Win XP Sp1 (as far as i am lead to beleave). 480 Mb/s is the max that usb 2.0 can support, does not mean that it will be running at that speed.

I suggest double checking your usb drivers... you may still have usb 1.0 drivers instead of 2.0.
HTH! |
Make sure you have USB 2.0 slots. If not, buy an expansion slot set of 4.
If you already have them, use your motherboard CD to install the drivers. |
Also you should note that older motherboards didn't have a USB 2.0 controller chip, but just the standard USB 1.1. chip.
|
make sure you have USB 2.0. in the device manager expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers" if you have "standard enhanced PCI to USB host controller" that means you have USB 2.0. it might say something else, but the keyword is enhanced

Don't forget that you will need a USB 2 cable to hook up your PC to the ext drive.
:D :D :D |

I dunno if there is an actual difference, but I have used a USB 1.1 cable with a 2.0 device and gotten 2.0 speeds, it might be more dependant on if the USB 2 device can tolerate the difference(?) between usb cables.
Basically as long as it works, no need to spend more on a cable. |
