Mobo/PC failure

Our kids PC has died, its got an Asus mobo (P2B), but I can't figure the error that its giving.

The main power light is flashing 3 times - the manual doesn't give any explanation of such errors.

Any ideas????

You need to me more clear about the problems you're seeing.

Most BIOS/PCs used to (when I was a PC Engineer years back) give out messages via the power LED to signal what the failure was - 1 flash would mean one thing, 2 another, etc. I din't know what the equivalent on the recent ASUS boards mean.

When you go to power on the machine, all that you get is the power and keyboard LEDs flashing 3 times (quickly), slight pause, repeat, etc. etc.

With out more info the best I can offer is to suggest you check the Ram. If youve got mulitiple stick in that box then start with one stick at a time. You may want to check the seating of the video card too. And a different video. Usually when you get power on, but no post you either have ram not in rigth, compatable, or bad. Video not in rigth, or bad. Or a mainboard that has failed...

make sure the case-mounted speaker is connected properly -- it will beep error codes if it detects an error, but of course you can't hear it if the speaker isn't hooked up. usually a blinking power LED indicates sleep mode...

have you tried unplugging it from the wall for a while and plugging it back in?

as a last resort, i'd take it apart and put it back together again :D that often works for me (seriously..it could use the cleaning too)

go to the asus website or the manual to see what the beep codes mean, they can be confusing :)

P2B boards had the system message leds. The board is <strike>very</strike> relatively old and support may be hard to find.

It is still an ami bios isn't it? If so go <a href="http://www.compguystechweb.com/troubleshooting/bios/ami_errors.html">here</a> for a list of ami error beeps and how to correct them. The guide is saying that three beeps indicate a problem with your base 64k memory.

The ASUS webstie wasn't any help, and as it turned out, it was the power supply being faulty ..... which rates about 20 on my 1-10 scale of embarrassing. I don't keep spare PSUs around the house .... the office now has one less PSU.
