LCD Monitor

Recently purchased a Sony LCD monitor for my college dorm and I was gonna use it on my norm computer for the next 2 weeks. I plug in the power and the VGA into the video card and then proceed to turn on the monitor but the screen flashes on for 2 seconds then turns back off. I can get flashes for two seconds by pressing the menu button on the side, but that is all.

Any help?

Perhaps you have it plugged into an outlet with too much power being drawn from it. Try plugging it into a different socket and see if it stays on. Also, try connecting it to a friends computer and see if it works on theirs. If so, check your graphics card connections and make sure everything looks alright. If not, you might want to return the monitor and get a different one.

Or maybe your refresh rate is set too high in windows - try booting in safe mode and if it works try dropping the refresh rate for next reboot.

Well, a lightbulb went off and I didn't install the drivers.
So, I installed the drivers and thought that would solve everything.

Nope!
Still the same thing. Can't hold a picture for longer than 3 seconds. I cannot find any support in the manual or Sony. Could it be the monitor or is it my video card?

Well, I tried a different outlet - nothing.
Moved it downstairs and tried it on sister's computer - same thing.
Display shows up for 2-3 seconds then disappears. No sound or anything.
Gonna RMA it back to Newegg

Good thing its from NewEgg--theyre usually pretty good about RMAs. Good luck getting it fixed!

Well, sadly, the monitor only has the manufacturer's warranty so last night at 4am I was talking to a guy in India about the problem and luckily he spoke really good English. A "monitor specialist" is supposed to call me back today.

Hey, don't hate us Indians...

Ne way guess your monitor was DOA so sorry about that, hope you can get it fixed.

Also if you monitor supports both digital and analog connections have you tried both?

Well, the video card in my computer now only has VGA and that is the connection that curently doens't work. My new computer (scheduled to be built Monday) has DVI which I plan on using but Xepidemic is right, is half the connections don't work, why keep it? If I were to pay $437 for an LCD monitor, it damn well better fucking work right.

Go to the Sony support website@:

http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTE...support%2eisml

and check the troubleshooting documentation for your model. This may be faster than waiting for a tech to call you...
