Anyone here use Mozilla Thunderbird by any chance? I could really use some help setting it up if someone would be willing to help me. Just so you know, I'm not a computer illiterate person, I just can't, for the life of me, figure out where to put my mail server password in. If someone could contact me, that'd be great.

I assume you mean the password for your mail account, right? What sort of account is it? pop3? imap?

Actually, thinking about it....

After you set up an account, when you first check mail for that account, it'll prompt you for your password. There's also a checkbox if you want to save the password. I think that's the only place you can enter it.

Everytime I try to check my mail, it keeps saying connection refused.

I'm using a pop3 server that requires user authentication (which I also can't find a checkbox for in the settings.)

Authentication is already checked by default when you set it up. If you want to check it, go to
Tools\Account Settings\Server Settings
Most of the time "Use secure connection" and "Use secure authentication" should be unchecked, for regular pop3 use.

Is it connection refused due to invalid protocol or is it a bad mail server? Everytime I've gotten that error I typed in the server wrong.

And as Latch said, the password box should come up when you try to connect to the mail server.

It says "Could not connect to server pop; the connection was refused". I input everything as its put on my ISP's website, but they do not support Thunderbird, so they couldn't help me with setting it up.

If you go to a command prompt and try pinging the server you have listed as the POP3 (incoming mail) server, can you successfully ping it?

Your anti-virus may be interfering, if it has a feature that filters e-mail. I had this issue with Panda and Thunderbird, and Panda helpfully doesn't allow me to selectively disable e-mail scanning.

Ok, update... my anti-virus is disabled, and I CANNOT ping or telnet any of the addresses that they (retarded isp tech support) has given me, so she pretty much told me, "we don't support that so you're fucked". Anyone know of any Windows XP settings, maybe, that would block me from accessing telnet?

get it working through an email program they support via their helpdesk. Then, when you get it working there, copy those settings and use it in thunderbird.

Do you have a firewall or anything in place?

Ok, well I just tried it again today, and funny isn't it? After my ISP said that it wasn't their fault and their servers were working within proper parameters, it starts working for me!

I used Thunderbird for about 2 days until I realized it wasn't automatically wrapping text, instead sending messages as one huge line. Even Outlook Express does this, so I can't believe Thunderbird wouldn't, but I checked and rechecked every option and it would never do it. I got it to the point where when composing a message, it would appear to be breaking the lines, but it still sent the message as one line. I would be shocked if a piece of Microsoft software is more Internet-friendly than something from the Mozilla Foundation, so I must be missing something.

Thats odd. Ive been using Thunderbird for about a year now and havent come across that problem
