Car amplifier
I have a Pioneer head unit with 52W x 4 (i am pretty sure max not rms)
Would adding an amplifier for the speakers, such as this one: http://www.xplodsony.com/products/?C...&MD=XM-4060GTX would add to the quality of the sound and more better sound at higher volumes (expecially with the windows down, it gets hard to hear so I have to crank it up) The amp is $199 and the speakers are stock (1988 BMW 325) but they are really really nice speakers so far. I cna actually get some serious bass from them once i added the Pioneer unit it sounded like I had some subs in the back. Pretty cool because the stock radio was awful and the new unit made my speakers sound better ten-fold. Would the new amp make them sound even better, especially at higher volumes, for better quality?

The sound could improve, but I would recommend using the crossover to keep the dangerous low frequencies from your stock speakers. You'll get more volume that way too, as the (probably) small stock speakers no longer have to reproduce low bass material. I personally would cut them off in the neighborhood of 80 Hz.

I have no subs though.....although I plan to get a single 10" around 300-400 watts to supplement the system and then I can get the crossover so all the bass goes to the sub.

hey i just got that amp that you are looking at... you can get it for $100 if you Ebay, but the housing wont look the same... it was easy to install and made a big diffrence... I am runninng Infinity Kappa speakers all over my car and i would say that i am not geting sub like sound from and kappa are pretty top of the line stuff.... i would worried about your speakers with a 4 channel that has 60 watts RMS like that, your head unit is probably no biggie for your factory speakers b/c your most likly had a decent factory radio b/c it is a BMW... if you put the amp in just dont turn the gain all the way up or else you wont have speakers for long. I ran my front compoent set for about one week at 3/4 of the gain of that amp, and it finished off the factory speakers. post if you have more ?s.

It depends on what settings you have the amplifier on. The higher the % you use, the more distortion you can encounter. I have a 450 watt amp that is only turned onto half power . it gets louder than i want or need and doesnt distort any sounds.
