in the market for a PDA

i have never used a PDA before. im looking to purchase one to help organize my monthly schedule. i just got a new job that will consists of appointments as well as my clientel. it seems that a PDA might serve useful. i did some research and i would like one that has a built in LAN. im probably going to be using basic tools such as the calendar, addressbook, and some occasional online stuff like checking email, scores and such. i talked to some guy at office depot and he highly suggested the Sony Clie TJ37. i was hoping to get some comments and suggestions from those who have had some experience a PDA or pocket pc.

I definitely recommend a Pocket PC if you're a PC user. It will be far more familiar than a Palm device or a Blackberry. The Dell X30 is a good device. A lot of built-in features which mean you can expand quite a bit. Everything from scanner to GPS devices for navigation. Palm and Blackberries are great devices but you will be a bit limited to how much you can expand. There will be add-ons but not as many as Pocket PC's. Let us know what you decide! Happy shopping

If you're a masochist (sp?) and would like to experience the nuisance of Windows in the palm of your hand, get a PocketPC device. The Dell Axim units are reasonably priced and good features.

If you'd rather not have to deal with Windows, get a Palm Tungsten. I've got a T3 and love it. However, I'm tired of carrying a cell phone and PDA so I will probably consolidate when the Treo 650 comes out.

A Palm can do everything you'd need from a PDA including editing MS Office docs, surfing the web, and running a Remote Desktop Connection with Windows. I guess PocketPC fans feel that Palm's lack of wi-fi is a problem. Well, it is if you _really_ need wi-fi. The wi-fi SD card just came out for the T3 so you're all set.

Don't forget that public use of wi-fi requires a HotSpot account at $20-$50/month. My dad drives around with his Axim and searches for wireless routers. Not the he connects to them - he's just messing around. I guess he's got a lot of time to kill.
