not sure it's possible to do what you want to do (?)
i would suggest putting a shortcut to it in 'links' , and in quicklaunch also use tweakUI to make it one of your 5 special locations in save/open dialogs (what os?) or make a new partition and just use it in place of that folder |

to map the network drive, share the folder (right click the folder - sharing and security - share this folder), and then when you want to map the network drive (my computer - tools - map network drive) , type \\hostname\share.

Exactly what flamingpeach said - just do it all locally - share the folder you want to mount then map a network drive using \\(name of local machine - don't uset locahost)\ sharename
That will mount the folder as a drive for you - if the shortcut thing doesn't meet your needs.

ok you cant do it with 98 (or easily)
if you were running win2k/xp here is what you do on the run prompt net share [share name]=[share path] then net use [Drive letter to bind it to] [network path] that is the syntax to explain it better: net share $hiddenshare=c:\1\ this will share the folder as hiddenshare the $ makes it a hidden share (so it wont apear on the network) then net use x \\computername\$hiddenshare this will map the x drive to the folder. and your done

I did forget to mention that you could use the admin share - but since you mentioned that you're on Win98 I don't think you can anyway. Just make sure that when you map the drive you use the actual machine name instead of \\localhost. I think you posted at the same time I entered my last post so I don't think you saw what I said earlier. It should work - I tested it.
