Razer Boomslang 2100
 

I've been banging on about the Boomslang 1000 since I used one about 3 years. As you can imagine the depths of my heart were warmed very muchly when I saw that Razer were starting to bring them out.

I rapidly purchased one, when my g/f finds out I will be in the dog house for spending this much monies on a mouse and pad.

Right, the big deal? These damn things have a sensitivity of 2100 dpi, granted its a ball based mouse, but not many mice can come close to that kind of accuracy. As I was spening near £50 on a mouse I thought I might as well get the IceMat black too. Its been well reviewed and I must say I like it.

Both arrived in nice little boxes, think i'll hold onto the IceMat's box to transport it in when I go to LANs.

One look at the manufacturers website would make you think that these things (the boomslang) come with a ratpad of some sort (well thats what I thought), but thats not the case, am so glad I got the IceMat too.

Can you really tell the differnce on the sensitivty? Hell yeah! This is a screenshot I took of the sensitivy settings of my Intellimouse;

Just letting the PC pick up the mouse and letting it use the same settings as the Intellimouse was a REALLY bad idea. It was so fast that a tiny mm move of the mouse would fling the mouse pointer to the other side of my dual monitor setup. Using the touchpad on my laptop I got it usable, and chucked the drivers on.

The software itself is very handy, its a real good idea to install them, the ability to adjust the x/y axis speed independantly is a nice touch, and useful.

The settings as they are in the boomslang control actually makes the mouse pointer faster than it used to be when I was using my intellimouse, so theres lots of room for people who want more mouse speed than I can handle.

Had a good couple hours play of Quake3 this morning, was excellent, this thing takes a lot of getting used to, but nearer the end of my play I noticed subtle little things, on maps such as Q3CTF4 if I am railing from one end of the map to the other (where pixel accuracy is important) my accuracy has gone up, and I credit the mouse for that.

The one snag I have with it, its really easy to hit button 5 (the button on the right side of the mouse), but that will just take some getting used to.

I have to say goodbye to my Intellimouse, it has served me well for many years :) It will of course be kept in use on another computer of mine, but no more coming with me all over the UK lanning.

If you find the sensitivity of other mice limiting, get one of these, I believe overclockers.co.uk are stocking them at present.

Nice stuff. I pondered getting one of those a bit back, but never found a place that sold one for an affordable price...ended up getting a logitech dual optical. Not too bad, but I always wondered about the mouse that got away... ;-P

The thing with the dual head ones is that they arent both in use at the same time, the mouse switches depending on which one is performing better, which creates a tiny lag when playing games.

Not to hijack this thread, but, I too own a logitech dual optical. The dual optical ones do utilize both sensors at the same time. I've done some experimenting and when you move one sensor along the x-axis and the other along the y-axis, the cursor moves diagonally. I found this out by sliding two pieces of paper different directions under each sensor. Yeah, I get bored sometimes.
