What's your (fav) mouse?
 

I'm looking for a new mouse for our family computer, seeing as the current one (an IBM mouse that came with my old Aptiva) is slowly starting to hurt my hands. Seeing as I have big hands and the mouse is pretty small it doesn't quite fit, which becomes painfull after long periods of surfing (TFP)or such.

Now I have recently bought a new ergonomic keyboard because of a similar reason (crappy keyboard) and I love it. I thought such a thing as 'ergonomic mice' existed as well, but I can't seem to find any. Can anybody give me advice on a new mouse?
I've also been looking at so called 'Trackmans' but I have no idea wether I'd be able to work with something like that let alone the rest of the family. Does anyone have any experiance with those (and long term use of them)?

Jinya has a Logitech TrackMan Wheel. It's a good "mouse"; easy to use, fits into the hand (and would even, I suspect, fit your large hand.) The only thing is that the trackball is thumb-maneuvered, which doesn't give you as much fine motor control. If you can, find a trackball with a ball that's maneuvered with the index finger. You'll get more control.

My overall preference, however, is for my Alps Glidepoint. After an initial learning period, it becomes your mouse of choice. I love the damn thing.

I have somewhat large hands but I can not stand trackballs. I guess it is just personal preference. I do like the Logitech MX700 as m0j0 suggested.

Try to find a mouse that is a wide as you're hand. That way you can rest you're whole hand on the mouse while you're working. In Europa you see them regularly. If you can't find them, try a therapist that is specialized in ergonomics. They often sell ergonomic mice.

I once saw a keyboard where the mouse was right under the spacebar. It was a small round bar, like a pen. You could role it to go up and down and shove it to go left and right. to click you pressed it. Worked well. Don't know about the ergonomics but it looked really cool!

I have the MX700 and love it.

Mostly anything optical, using an optical Logitech mouse right now, though I need a new mousepad made of the thread stuff because this one has a smooth top that's clear that confuses the hell out of it..

I like my Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse, but the main thing is just getting one that feels comfortable. Some of the computers at my school have Logitech mice (I don't know the model number) that are bigger than normal but in trying to ergonomically design it, they made it feel really akward.

Edit: Just looked at the one my school uses, its a Logitech MouseMan Wheel.

I bought the Microsoft Intelli Optical Explorer when it first came out and it has proven itself since then.

I used to have an optical mouse that for some reason caused my computer to crash several times a day. After a while I got tired of it and went back to my trusty Microsoft IntelliPoint wheel mouse. It still works fine, though I guess I miss having a thumb-side button. I used it as a back button on my optical mouse. I know for a fact I couldn't live without the wheel button as a scroller, though.

I looove my Logitech Trackman Marble Wheel. Bliss.

now if only my fucking first gen woudlnt' lose it's power all the fucking time!! :mad:

I haven't used it yet. But I bought a Wireless optical mouse called the MX700. Most mice for me, while are comfortable, are also slightly small. It comes packed with stuff so its a much larger mouse. This mouse is probably overkill. If you use the mouse all day long you will have to either stop using the computer to let it charge or swap out for a different mouse while it's charging. I was lucky enough to get the MX Duo (mouse + keyboard) for $53.

As for the Trackman, I've never tried one out. They always seemed a little odd to me. I suppose you could see about testing one out on a computer at Best buy or similar place.

i prefer to use the intellimouse explorer and the explorer 3.0. both of them are optical mice. the 3.0 is a bit larger and set up to fit the right hand, so if you are a lefty it may not be as comofrtable and the 2 side buttons would be hard to use.

I have the MX700... it's battery life is about 2 - 3 days. I'd assume people sleep in that period of time or at least step away from the computer to take a shit, is it that hard to put it on the charger for a little bit? With the batteries completely dead, it takes 2 hours to charge them. It is an awesome mouse and I would recommend it to anyone.

it's about a tie. the two most comfortable mice I've owned are the latest m$ opticals; the intellimouse explorer 3.0, the wireless explorer, and the bluetooth flavor of the latter. I'm currently using the bluetooth M$ mouse and keyboard combo, and it's great. The bluetooth mouse tracking isn't quite up to par in games, but it's much better than the previous m$ wireless mouse (and is probably the most comfortable mouse i've used).

For tracking, it's a tie between the m$ explorer 3.0 and the wireless Logitech MX700. both are excellent mice, and although the m$ is more comfortable, the tracking on the mx700 is superb, and gave me quite an edge when i played games.

Try the new Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse. The new Tilt Wheel Technology is honestly the coolest thing since the optical mouse.

On another machine, I have the standar, big, bulky Intellimouse Explorer....and I dont mind it at all.

three of my four systems (the fourth being a server on the floor) use the same ambidextrious 5 button (or 4 button with the scroll wheel actually) MS optical explorer. would like a good trackball with a good scrollwheel and side buttons, but nothing I have seen out there works for me. Also hate to use a mouse in my right hand and it severely limits my choices when the market is so heavily biased against me in that regard.

edit: just noticred this newer model with that tilt technology, sounds interesting if the price is reasonable.

intellimouse explorer. i've loved it since the day i got it. gave them as gifts to a few people and they all loved it.

MS's Intellimouse Explorer if you need a regular, but nice mouse. My personal favorite is the Cordless TrackMan Wheel by Logitech. It's a nice big wireless trackball mouse. I lean back in my chair, place the mouse on my leg, and it's TFP surfing bliss!

Umm. I'd like to cast a negative vote for the MX700. I have one. It's excellent, precise as fuck, and totally a good value for the price. But it's also heavy and makes your hand tired - I can really feel the difference when I use a cheapo plastic mouse on another computer.

Instead, try the corded-but-otherwise-identical MX500. It doesn't have batteries inside, so it's way lighter, and you get the same functionality in ALL other respects. Save a couple bucks, too.

Any (thumb) trackball works for me. I don't like mice. They require far too much clean desk space.

I'm using a MX300. Works pretty well for me. But the sensor was pretty haywire at first. I thought I bought a bugged unit. Used it on my table top, used 3 different mouse pads. And in the end, the best surface for it was an A4-sized plain piece of paper. Works like a charm now! :D

I've tried a multitude of mouses thus far, and actually it's a close race between my mx 300 and my intellimouse ex. 3.0. It depends what mood i'm in, and also what i'm trying to do. I prefer for games to play with my destrukt pad+intellimouse, but for graphic programs, I prefer the fUnc+mx 300. The mx300 seems smoother to me, it's smaller.. a bit easier to move around.

For games I like the intellimouse+dkt pad for alot of obvious reasons. The feel of the mouse itself, and not having to worry about my fingers touching the pad and screwing up my movement. The dkt pad is HUGE (litterally huge http://www.pchardware.co.uk/destruktlarge.gif ) scaling in at 14” High, 17.5” Wide, 1/16” Deep. More space to move around.

So it's really a matter of preference.

Best mouse on the planet, IMHO: Logitech MX 700. Just fantastic.

i have to say i didn´t like it to start with, but its growing on me.

Up to mid-day today, I've had a corded USB Microsoft Intellimouse Optical, which I loved, but alas it was *this* close to falling apart, so I replaced it with a Logitech MX700.

It took me a few hours to get used to it.. its quite a bit heavier than the Intellimouse, with the batteries and all, but a nice relaxing session of Jedi Academy got me used to it, and I'm liking it quite alot.

I just noticed this on a deal-seeking website I frequent and it reminded me of this thread.

I am surprised that no one has said the cordless optical trackman. I have one of theses, and would never ever use a regular mouse again.It has 8 butons (inc. the wheel) has great battery life, is very percise, etc.

It is pricey, and if you have never used one, its a little acward at first, but trust me, you'll love it.

And hey, if you buy it from a mega store, you have 30 days to play with it to decide for yourself.

MX700 best moust I've ever used. I've got no problems with hand fatigue.

I've generally been a fan of Logitech devices. My personal favorite was the MouseMan Sensa which was made from roughly 1994-1998. It was very kind to large hands. I also have a couple of their venerable "cheese wedge" mice.

Apple's older mice were awesome...but their current ones suck.

The best mouse I've ever used though...was the hockey puck used by Digital DECStations and VAXStations.

*sigh* at times I wish computer technology could stay forever in about 1995. I miss a lot of old toys.

logitech MX500 is the only mouse :P
