Anyone know how to disable the document history on the start menu?

I dont like the history of my last documents/videos popping up when I go past documents on the start menu. Is there a way to hide this or to get rid of it fully?
Any help is greatly appreciated

in win xp, do this.

right click on start button, go to properties

click on 'customize'

click on 'advanced'

now, take the check off 'list my recent....'

here is how I do it

User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer]
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer]
Value Name: NoRecentDocsMenu
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = display, 1 = remove)

Remove Recent Documents from the Start Menu

I think you can change this with TweakUI as well, but I'm too lazy to look.

I know this has been answered before but this is weird. I did what The Dude said and XP is still saving my recent documents.
I don't understand!

What steveincolumbus tells me to do is over my head. Thanks for trying Steve.

Dunno if you've tried this, but try altering the security properties of the "C:\Documents and Settings\<your profile>\Recent" directory and disallow everyone's write access. Haven't tried it myself, but it's worth a shot. That's where XP seems to keep its recent item shortcuts.

Brewmaniac:

what steveincolumbus was referring to was registry hacking. Start > Run > regedit *hit enter*

what he has, are the keys, just follow them left to right, expanding the little plus. just be sure to back up your registry before you make any changes.

If you go to tecktv.com they had a real good way to hack to reg to stop it from puting it on the hard drive at all.

I use MRUBlaster's Silent Clean Feature to get rid of that + other windows 'recent' lists...
