Wireless Bridge Question
Hi there!
I've been trying to set up a wireless bridge to connect to my university's (University of Wisconsin, Madison) free wireless network to my LAN. I know it's not a signal problem because I've taken my laptop and bridge right to the antenna and I have the same problem. I've also built an antenna to recieve a better signal, even though i'm not more than 70 feet from the antenna. Here's my setup, I have a Linksys WET11 wireless ethernet bridge, I have the SSID set to what my university wants (wireless-wiscworld) and I believe I have all the rest of the settings correct. When I asked the tech support on campus they tell me it should work, there are no special settings. I have the TCP/IP and DHCP on and the Microsoft Networking on, and everything seems like it should work, but it doesnt! Thanks for your help! also, when I run ipconfig the DNS suffix is blank and so is the default gateway. Last edited by kipperoo3; 08-22-2003 at 09:22 PM.. |

Do you have access to the ethernet LAN? By far the easiest setup is to plug the AP into the LAN and use it as a transparent bridge. In this situation you could use whatever SSID you choose. It would act like a client on the local network, but bridge connections and allow them to negotiate DHCP on their own.

The Microsoft netwotking you mentioned, is that "client for Microsoft networking"? Do you have file and printer sharing installed also? Can you ping your nic?
Turn off the computer, remove the power from the linksys. Wait a minute or so. Plug the linksys in, when the lights are stable, turn on the computer. I hope this helps you. |

thanks for helping everybody! I found my problem. I had DHCP turned on in windows, but not through the linksys. I had to go through my browser to the bridge's IP address, and enable the DHCP there. Thanks again!
