Help with case modding

Hey, I've just started thinking that I'm really sick of my beige case, and want to change it around a bit. I've noticed that quite a few of you have done case mods on your computers, and was wondering if you you could give me any advice on how to wire stuff (lights and the like) as well as if there is anything I should avoid... I'd appreciate any help you could give.

Power splitters, unplug on of you disc drives and plug a power splitter into the power cord and it'll usually give you a couple of extra power ports, neon lights usually hook up to them. However people are moving away from using the standard neon lights.

I'd recommend throwing away your IDE cables and getting glow-in the dark ones or at least reflective ones. I've just finished modding my case but have yet to cut a window into the side-panel.

Once you're done you'll wish you had done it ages ago, it just looks so much better modded up.

www.xoxide.com has some awesome tutorials and stuff in their forums, they also sell about every tool/switch/etc you might need. most lights and stuff come with built in splitters, switches, so unless youre really into building your own stuff, its really easy to install. id show you my case, but no dig camera.

Warning: case modding gets really old after you've had your case about a year. I've modded a window and some lights into my PC as well as Antec Cobra ribbon cables, and the only thing that I like now is the ribbon cables.

Now, onto the modding, since you want to do it: neon lights are the easiest way to mod your case. They're pretty much useless unless you have a side window, however. You can buy a custom -pre-modded case from www.directron.com or www.xoxide.com if ya want. Pre-modded cases are usually a good place to start. You can add cathodes (lights) after you get a nice case. If you want to simply mod a current case, you can buy window-kits at many places. Note: you MUST have a way to cut through aluminum/metal without fucking up. If you fuck up a window-mod, it looks VERY, very bad.

Molex splitters are very useful. They basically give you an extra outlet to plug stuff in in your PC. They aren't very expensive, but make sure your power supply can take all of the extra voltage.

My best suggestion is ordering a pre-modded case and then adding whatever else you want to it. Beware of blinking LED case fans; they're VERY annoying.

eh, I used to admin xoxideforums.com but I quit for management reasons.

anyways, be sure to check your shipping charges if you live in the PST area. its gets expensive

in any case, case modding and premodding are really different IMHO

you can buy all that simple stuff like fans and lights and precut cases.. but thats not modding, thats just being a consumer.

if you want to have a computer case that you can be proud of and 100% assured that no one else can have anything like it, you need to go from scratch.

a case gallery that might do you some good to take a look at would be at www.lanparty.com and www.OCModshop.com 's gallery

heres a personal favorite
